JANICE DALE (SIDEHAMER) RIDENOUR Janice Ridenour passed away after a day surrounded by family and loved ones on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Born 1937, Janice was the daughter of homemaker/book-keeper Ardella Iffert, and pharmacist Charlie Sidehamer of Edgewood (Regent Square Pharmacy), and has been a lifelong resident of the South Western PA region. She graduated from Edgewood High School, in 1955, and Penn State University, in 1959. Jan will be greatly missed by sons, Glenn (Denise), and Todd (Trish), and 'adopted' son, Frank Morris. Her six beloved grandchildren, Aodhan, Mairead, Elissa, Gearoid, Alexander and Aine, dubbed her "Granice." She loved to gather all of her family and friends together for sunny days sailing on Pymatuning Lake, followed by sunsets and campfires under starry skies. She paddles onward without her many adventurous friends. Aside from being an awesome cook, and all-around capable homemaker, Jan served as a teacher and the director of Bellwood Preschool, in Franklin Park, for 44 years (1968 – 2012). Jan was an early congregation member and supporter of the Unitarian-Universalist Church of the North Hills, for over 50 years. She nurtured her children – at home and school – with a sense of compassion, and caring responsibility to nature, and fellow man. Janice was a champion of environmental and conservation efforts (definitely Green before Green was 'cool'). She was a founding member of the North Area Environmental Council (NAEC), and as a past president of the Pine Creek Land Trust, Janice helped to preserve the valley around Crouse Run in Hampton Township, and the Flight 427 monument area, in Hopewell, Beaver County. As an avid outdoors person she enjoyed hiking, biking, and kayaking in the natural areas of Western PA. Jan especially appreciated the wildlife, and solitude, of the woods of her Marshall Township home, which she enjoyed for nearly six decades. As a lover of life, art, music, and cultures, she traveled the world at every opportunity. A memorial service will be held at a later date, when we can all gather in person again. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Cumberland Crossings, Elmcroft of Allison Park, and Good Samaritan Hospice, for the constant care and compassion you showed our mother."
