DAVID J. TOMCIK OUR LOVEABLE ...

DAVID J. TOMCIK Our loveable family curmudgeon, my dad, David J. Tomcik, “kicked the bucket,” on September 26, 2020. He was born at home in 1938 to George P. and Mary A. (Sox) Tomcik while his father and the good doctor played cribbage at the kitchen table and his siblings, Teresa, George, and Jean looked on. The youngest by ten years, Dave kept his parents on their toes. His mother knew that he and his cousin were off on another camping adventure when she discovered the absence of her cast iron frying pan along with a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, and a pound of slab bacon. While training with the Navy, he would hitchhike home, without notice, and appear on the couch to watch Saturday morning cartoons with his family. My dad had one great love: my mom. He met Joan F. Short in 1963 and, together, they gave me, Kimberly (Tomcik) Hughes, and my brother, Anthony "Tony" Tomcik a strong and faithful foundation. Dave's grandchildren, Nicole Solaya (Stevo) and Megan Everett (Brad) and great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Kate, Lydia, and Emily Solaya brought him great joy and pride. Dave was a creature of habit and if you would invite him to an event not within his weekly routine, he would say, “I ain't participatin'.” He was happiest in the sun and water and always looked forward to his next cruise. The wake view was one of his favorites and the years seemed to melt away as he watched the waves. I like to think he has finally joined his family on that never-ending all-inclusive, dancing with my mom and fishing with my brother. Friends and family will be welcomed Saturday, October 3 from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at MCDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, 334 Forest Grove Rd., Coraopolis, PA 15108, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church 1304 4th Ave, Coraopolis, PA 15108 followed by a graveside service at Resurrection Cemetery. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are following the PA/CDC guidelines and mandate requiring the use of facial masks, social distancing and permit a maximum of 25 visitors at one time. If you feel uncomfortable visiting, may we suggest leaving an online condolence. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
