ZIMMERMAN BETTY (SHUPE) Passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018. She was born in Saltsburg, PA on October 26, 1921, to Preston and Bess Shupe. One of three daughters, Betty learned to be an independent, organized, and responsible young lady by helping her father run his local hardware store and being an attentive and faithful daughter to her dear Mother. In the winter of 1936, she met her future husband, Bob (Robert Elmer) Zimmerman while ice skating on the Kiski School pond. Betty graduated from Saltsburg High School and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Business from Duffs College. On April 10, 1943, Betty and Bob married and proceeded to live a life full of love, happiness, and golf until his death in December of 1990. She was a devoted and loving mother to their three children: Elmer Ernest “Ernie” Zimmerman II (Wendie) of Fox Chapel, Bobette K. Z. Cooper (Kurt) of Atlanta, GA and Robert Elmer Zimmerman (the late, Evelyn) of Ashburn, VA. She leaves behind six grandsons: E.E. “Chip” Zimmerman III, Brian D. Zimmerman (Jennifer), Jackson R. Cooper (Sallie Long), Alec A. Cooper, Robert I. Zimmerman (Katie) and Thomas R. Zimmerman; her great- grandchildren include Emerson and Ella Zimmerman, Adam and Brad Zimmerman, and Brooks and Alexandria Zimmerman. Betty shared her love of gardening as a member of the Squaw Run Garden Club and her passion for golf as the Ladies Golf Chairman at Indian Creek Country Club in Miami Beach. She was also a longtime member and friend to many of The Ladies Golf League at the Pittsburgh Field Club in Fox Chapel. Betty and Bob celebrated their 50th year of first meeting at Kiski Pond by going on a memorable trip to Hawaii. Throughout their lives together, they made friends wherever they traveled and resided, including Hilton Head Island, SC, Bal Harbour, FL, Ponte Vedre, FL and Viamede, Canada. After the loss of her beloved husband, Betty enjoyed using her artistic talents to remodel and decorate her several homes, travel extensively, read voraciously, and even become computer savvy. CAMPBELL DONALD MAITS Age 95, passed away on May 20, 2018, in Indiana, PA, near the homes of two of his three nephews. Don was born December 30, 1922, near Library, PA and was a longtime resident of Bethel Park. He was a member of Peter's Creek Baptist Church. Don was a graduate of Bethel High School, Worchester Polytechnic Institute in Worchester, Massachusetts and Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University). He was both a certified mechanical and electrical engineer. Don enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater of operations until the war ended. After returning from active duty, Don found a home with U.S. Steel where he worked for 54 years as an engineer. At one point, he was the superintendent of the roll mill at Duquesne Works, and then became a traveling consultant for the engineering division of U.S. Steel, specializing in roll mills and working all over the world. He was well into his 70's when he retired. Never having married, Don's closest family was his three nephews, Glenn L. (Kyle) and Allan N. (Dorothy) Campbell of Indiana, PA and Donald B. (Gayle) Campbell of West Chester, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph P. and Nellie M. Campbell; and his brother and his brother's wife, Ralph R. and Grace L. Campbell. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, from 2-7 p.m. at PAUL HENNEY CREMATION & FUNERAL TRIBUTES, 5570 Library Rd., Bethel Park, PA, immediately followed by a short memorial service given by Don's nephew, the Rev. THOMAS BENJAMIN E., Jr. Of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on May 18, 2018. He was 87. Ben, or as some knew him as Bud, was born in Pittsburgh and graduated from Langley High School. He then went to the University of Pittsburgh for his undergraduate degree. He joined Sigma Chi Fraternity and was recognized with the Significant Sig Award in 1993 by the National Fraternity. Ben served in the Air Force and then returned to the University of Pittsburgh where he obtained his Jurist Doctorate degree in 1957. He worked for Crucible Steel and then moved to HJ Heinz Company where he worked for 29 years and retired as Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Associate General Counsel. Ben was an active member of the Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church and served on the Mt. Lebanon School Board. He was President of the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association. He moved to Boca Raton, FL in 2008. Ben is survived by his beloved wife of almost 66 years, Bertha Abbott Thomas; his three children, Carol Olsavicky (Edward) of West Chester, PA, David Thomas (Joanne) of Houston, TX, and Susan Thomas of Boca Raton. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Laura Olsavicky Banoub, Rachel Olsavicky, Benjamin Thomas and Eleanor Thomas; and two nieces and three nephews. Although he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in the knowledge he is safely home in Heaven. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at GLICK FUNERAL HOME, Boca Raton, Florida.
