GEISLER DONALD PAUL Born March 23, 1934, on February 9, 2016, Donald Geisler went to join our Lord Jesus Christ after a short battle with cancer. He was preceded by Pamela Geisler, who joined our Lord in 2007. Don was born on a small farm outside of Pittsburgh, PA in 1934. He attended Carnegie Tech for two years and was drafted into the US Army in 1956. He served in the US Army in Korea from 1956-58. After he returned he joined Pittsburgh National Bank (now PNC) in 1958. Don was a pioneer in computer programming in banking, sharing in the creation of one of the first commercial checking account programs, as well as leading the installment of the first ATM network in the Pittsburgh area. He rose to the position of Director of Telecommunications in 1979, he retired from PNC in 1992. Since then, he was active in Y2K programming, as well as serving as the business manager of St. Vincent DePaul of Pittsburgh. For many years he was active in St. Valentine's Catholic Church of Bethel Park, PA. Mr. Geisler and his wife moved to Sun City Hilton Head in 2000, where he was active in community affairs, Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Within Sun City, he was an active member of The Computer Club, The Veterans Association and The Woodworkers Workshop. He also enjoyed supporting and attending events for both the Sun City Community Theater and The Sun City Fishing & Hunting Club. Additionally, he enjoyed regular participation in a River Bend Poker Group. For many years, he was an active volunteer with Second Helpings and Catholic HEART Workcamp. He met Pamela Rae Watt in 1960. They were married in 1961, and were married for 46 years until Pam's death in 2007. He then married Margie Snyder in 2008, where they enjoyed more than seven happy years. He is survived by Margie; sons, Scott (Debbie), Robert (Susan) and Gregory (Kimberley). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Zachary, Alex, Peter, Morgan, Hannah and David. He will be sorely missed. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2016, at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton. Burial services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Beaufort National Cemetery. ELLIS ROSE BEARER Age 87, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2016. Beloved wife of the late John K. Ellis, Sr.; mother of J. Keefe Ellis, Jr. (Stacy), Peter Ellis, M.D. and Connie Heppenstall, (Mark); sister of Grace Rhody of Patton, PA, Helen Hahn of Carson City, NV, the late Mary Mullen, Mildred Robine, Nelda Carl, Winifred Leap, Joseph Bearer and John Bearer. Rose is also survived by ten grandchildren, Emily, Jake, Caroline, and Patrick Ellis, Andrew, Peter and Thad Ellis, and Mary, Kyle and Charlie Heppenstall; as well as many nieces and nephews. Rose graduated from the nurses training program at Mercy Hospital in 1948 where she worked as a pediatric nurse until she met her beloved husband of 51 years, John K. “Jack” Ellis whom she married in 1954. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her. A member of the St. Bede Parish in Point Breeze for 60 years, she sang in the church choir and was a devoted attendee of the 7:00 a.m. daily mass. In addition to her involvement with and devotion to St. Bede, Rose volunteered for many years at the Vintage Senior Center in Highland Park. She will be sorely missed but forever remembered for her beautiful smile, piercing blue eyes, kind words and gentle heart. There will be no visitation. D iPERNA JUDITH Age 72, of Brackenridge, died on Friday morning, February 12, 2016. Judith was born and raised in Brackenridge, best known locally as the owner, proprietor and expansive storyteller of Judy's Town News, a convenience store and meeting place a few paces from Allegheny Ludlum's No. 2 Gate. At the age of 42, Judith charged headlong into a new phase of life when she enrolled at Chatham College, where she earned her undergraduate degree. Thereafter, she obtained her M.S.Ed. from Duquesne University and went to work in Pittsburgh as a clinical therapist. An advocate and friend to marginalized populations, she went to work for Persad Center, a non-profit servicing the gay, lesbian and transgendered community. Born with a seemingly infinite reserve of compassion, she also facilitated the AIDS-HIV support group through the Shepherd Wellness Community for many years. A lifelong lover of the performing arts, Judith spent her last years working as a house manager for City Theatre in Pittsburgh's South Side, as she continued counseling many transgendered clients in her private practice. She was predeceased by her brothers, Victor and Brendan DiPerna; her parents, Anthony and Vera DiPerna; her cherished grandmother, Maria Petracco; and her niece, Dana DiPerna Pillsbury. She leaves behind her daughter, Jody DiPerna and her wife, Linda Dukess; her beloved niece, Amy DiPerna Sutton, and her husband, Charles; her brother, Dennis DiPerna and his wife, Kim; her loving cousins, Cynthia Adams, Lydia Petracco, Linda and Bob Buchko, Peter and Randi Petracco; and too many friends to count. ROMAN JOSEPH M. II “RED” Age 98, of Zelienople, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016, after having some heart issues. He was born at home in Homestead, PA, on May 29, 1917. He was the first son of the late Joseph M. and Mary S. Roman of Harmony, PA. He leaves behind to cherish his memory one daughter, Carol Jakub of Pittsburgh; three sons, Thomas (Irene) Roman of Rochester, Raymond Roman of Portersville, and Joseph Roman III of Zelienople; one brother, George Roman of Harmony; one sister, Joan Phillips; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline E. Urban Roman, who died on February 29, 2004; his son, James F. Roman, who died in 1979; his brother, Andrew Roman, who died in 1937; his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Clifford Baker; his grandson, Bernie Jakub; and his great- granddaughter, Chelsey Roman. KOST ELIZABETH “BETTY” Passed away at her home in Allison Park, PA on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Betty was born on March 7, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Kost and Marian Seifried Kost. Betty was a Graduate Nurse of St. Francis Hospital. She attended La Roche College and the University of Seattle, where she obtained a Master's Degree in Pastoral Ministries. Throughout her life, Betty was a nurse at Divine Providence Hospital, Pastoral Minister at St. Bonaventure, and a Coordinator of Pastoral Care at Meadville Medical Center. In retirement, Betty volunteered at hospice organizations as well as Passavant Hospital. She was also a member of the Bereavement Ministry for St. Mary Church in Glenshaw. Left to cherish Betty's memory are her siblings, Mary Ann Nicholas (Victor, deceased), Katherine Martier (Charles), Monica Rios (Thomas), Andrew Kost (Debbi), Carol Hoke (Michael, deceased); 20 nieces and nephews; and 35 great- nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass celebrating Betty's life will be conducted for family and friends at a later date.
