BOWMAN Rev. Dr. KARL WATSON, Jr. The Rev. Dr. Karl Watson Bowman, Jr., age 86, died March 3, 2015, at the Trinity Regional Rehab Center, Trinity, FL, following an extended period of illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joellen (McCaw) Bowman; his daughters and their spouses, Margaret and Peter Srnik, Rebecca and Michael Stark; and four grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Kelsey Stark and Ryan Srnik; and many close friends. Born and raised in Uniontown, PA, Karl was the son of the Rev. Karl, Sr. and Nellie Bowman. He was preceded in death by his parents; and younger brother, The Rev. Dr. Harold W. Bowman. Following in his fathers footsteps, Karl graduated from Wooster College and went on to Pgh. Theological Seminary. Throughout his pastoral career, Rev. Bowman served at: Wilkensburg, Mount Carmel, Third Presbyterian Church Uniontown, Elizabeth, and Greenfield, PA. After 62 years in the ministry, Rev. Bowman retired, had the opportunity to permanently relocate to Tarpon Springs, FL. Rev. Bowman had a passion for ministry, politics, tinkering in his workshop, animals and most importantly his family. PEEL KATHERINE At the age of 99, Katherine Feduska Peel passed away quietly on March 3, 2015. She was born in Leetsdale, PA. One of 12 children of Michael and Anna Mahnick Feduska, Katherine was a hard working person with a keen wit and an interest in sports and politics. At the age of 16, she was hired as a nursemaid to the Snowden family in Sewickley, PA, and during WWII she worked at the National Electric Company in Ambridge where she met her late husband, Jack Peel. After raising two children, she returned to school and earned her high school diploma. Katherine had a talent for music and art, and she was a wonderful cook and baker who always made holidays a special time for her extended family. Katherine is survived by her daughter, Lois Ann Peel Eisenstein; and son, Jack Daniel Peel; grandchildren, Erica Eisenstein Lynett, Jesse Daniel Peel, and Zachary Robert Peel; and great-grandchildren, Idefix Liljequist Peel, Evan Joseph Lynett, and Julianne Lois Lynett. OSWANT MARGARET (BURTT) Age 94, of Pittsburgh, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015. She was born October 23, 1920, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late John and Nancy Burtt. She was a graduate of Peabody High School and took classes at Carnegie Institute of Technology. She was the beloved wife for 62 years of Richard C. Oswant; loving mother of Penny (Gerald) Martin of Greenbelt, MD, Rachel (Stephen) Cupcheck of Pittsburgh, and Richard Rick Oswant of Cave Creek, AZ; grandmother of Lindsay (Luke) Thorwart, Heather (Mauno) Kork, Wade (Betty Jeanne) Cupcheck and Casey and Kyle Oswant; great-grandmother of Caleb and Susannah Thorwart. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Margaret was a member of the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh, where she was an active member of the Women's Alliance. She worked for a time as a hostess and cashier in the beloved Tic Toc Shop at Kaufmann's. Margaret had a love for the arts, which led her in earlier years to belong to the Mendelssohn Choir and the Pittsburgh Savoyards. Margaret and Richard also volunteered countless hours working with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Opera and the Carnegie Museums. A memorial service for Margaret will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh, 605 Morewood Avenue, Shadyside. MARKESS FRANK J. Of Beaver Falls, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters and loving family, Sunday, March 1, 2015. He was 92. Beloved father of Patricia (Lawrence) Alwine and Valerie M. Oltmanns; grandfather of Scott (Heather) Alwine, Jeffrey (Kelly) Alwine, Alexander Oltmanns and Katherine Oltmanns; and great-grandfather of Brandon, Zachary, Jake and Ryan Alwine. Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Catherine Kay (Stanko) whom he married on November 15, 1947. Born on May 11, 1922, in East Rochester, PA, Frank was the son of the late Nicklaus and Theresa (Jurcic) Markess; and was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Steve and Thomas. Frank served as a Sergeant of the 104 Div. 314 Troop Carrier Group of the U.S. Army in World War II, seeing active combat in the War's European theater and receiving both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, among other honors and citations for his service. Throughout a 36-year career with State Farm Insurance, Frank received numerous honors and awards. He was the #1 agent in total production in the state of Pennsylvania in 20 of his first 25 years as a State Farm agent. He qualified for State Farm's prestigious President's Club, State Farm's highest honor in recognition of the top 50 agents of the 17,000 State Farm agents in the United States, 34 distinct times over the course of his career. At the time of his retirement from State Farm in 1990, Frank had received the President's Club distinction more than any other agent in the United States. Frank also served as a mentor to numerous State Farm agents and was a frequent speaker and presenter at various State Farm meetings and conventions. Frank was a lifelong, active member of St. Philomena Catholic Church (now St. Monica Parish, College Hill site) and one of its founding members. His devotion to and love for his wife, Kay, was legendary, as they shared a remarkable love that evidenced itself in their joyful, loving devotion to each other as well as in the loving family that they created. Frank was a devoted father who loved his two daughters very much and took great pride in them, and that deep love and pride extended to his four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, whose company he delighted in. DUDAS THOMAS J. T.J. Age 95, of Haines City, FL, formerly of Wilkinsburg, PA, on February 19, 2015. Tom was born on February 13, 1920. Beloved husband of 57 years to the late Anita (Charletta) Dudas; devoted father of Susan (Philip) Hois, Tom, Jr., and; grandfather of Emily, Nate, Roslyn and Russell; survived by sister, Margaret (Mickey); dear friend, Rose DeMarco; and nieces and nephews. Tom was a Marine serving during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Tom's passions in life included fishing, wood working, hunting, and gardening. In his retirement years he made many cedar chests, jewelry boxes, lamps and inlaid tables from cedar and assorted hardwoods. He freely shared them with family, friends and neighbors. These cherished mementos will endure, along with his sage advice for longevity, to "always, just keep moving". Tom's other secret to longevity may be attributed to the American Indian proverb that "God does not charge time spent fishing against a man's allotted lifespan". A memorial mass is planned April 27, 2015, at St. Anne's Church in Haines City, FL. Military burial service will be held in the Florida National Cemetery. RICKART GERALDINE BROWN A longtime resident of Glenshaw, passed away on March 4th of 2015. She was born on Sept. 11, 1927, and was 87 years old. Her first love was William R. Brown, with whom she had four children before he passed away. Her second and most enduring love is John Rickart with whom she had one child. Her survivors are John Jack Rickart, her husband, William R. Brown, Jr. son, Marilyn McElheny Brown, Elisa Brown Gross, David Gross, Avery Gross, Weston Gross, Autumn Brown Coyne, David Coyne, Thomas Coyne, and Andrew Coyne. She is also survived by Richard Brown, son, Donna Levine Brown, Lee Levine, Tom Levine, Katie Levine, Mary Levine, Ben Levine, John Mac Brown, Jacob Rin Brown, Robin Brown Habunek, daughter, Greg Habunek, Rochelle Brown McKibben, daughter, Sean McKibben, Erin McKibben, Ronne Rickart Wright, daughter, Alan Wright, Logan Wright, Dillon Wright, Harry and Ireen Bishoff, cousins, Marie Dometrovich, cousin. Gerry was especially proud of her eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. We will miss her direction that she freely gave in how to manage our lives. Gerry's focus and accomplishments in life were her family. She provided her family with tools to unlock the potential in each one. Among Gerry's family are educators, famous athletes, accomplished musicians, stock brokers, insurance underwriters, financial advisors, homeland security agents, a decorated war hero, entrepreneurs and soccer stars. As a self-taught fabric artist, one of her creations was her gift of quilts. These family treasures will be passed down for generations, not only keeping us warm, but as a remembrance of her goal to keep her family safe and warm for all time.
