SCHLEGEL JANE L. (PRIESTLEY) Age 89, on Friday, June 27, 2014. Jane was a longtime resident of Sheraden. Beloved wife of 66 years to the late Harold J. Schlegel. Survived by her children, Jane Royal, John Schlegel, Pamela (Kirk) Howe and Wendy (Donald Moore) Schlegel; nine grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren; sister to Grace Priestley. Despite dealing with the after-effects of polio all her life, Jane was a creative person who enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and singing, both in her church choir and with Sweet Adelines. Her children knew her as a loving and wise mother whose support was unflagging and whose council was always respected. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at the Sheraden United Methodist Church, 2966 Chartiers Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15204. DANKO JOHN A., Jr. Age 77, of Conway, SC, formerly of Pittsburgh, died May 31, 2014. John was born in 1937 in Duquesne, PA, son of the late John A. and Mary J. (Tkach) Danko. He graduated from Duquesne High School in 1955 lettering in football and basketball. He joined the Air Force and served in Taiwan. He graduated Penn State University in 1963 with a B.S. in electrical engineering. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. During his career, he worked for Douglas Aircraft, Westinghouse-Bettis, U.S. Steel and retired as Vice-President from Greenleaf Corporation in Saegertown, PA. He is survived by a son, John Danko III; daughter, Jocelyn (Mark) Morelock; and granddaughters, Carolyn and Katelyn Morelock. He is also survived by Joan (Chuck) Yuhas, Marie McCutcheon, Dee Fazio (Bob Tach), and Richard (Sue) Danko; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant son, Jeffrey A. Danko. John was an excellent craftsman and enjoyed projects that revolved around remodeling homes and fixing machines and tools. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at the BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA. EDGAR LOIS Age 89, of Arlington, Virginia, died Friday, July 25, 2014. She was born to the late Charles and Marie Price of Swissvale, Pennsylvania May 17, 1925. Lois graduated from Swissvale Senior High School in 1943 and went on to marry her sweetheart since middle school, William “Bill” R. Edgar, for a union lasting over 69 years. Lois and Bill spent the next 30 years as an Air Force family, with duty stations throughout Europe and the U.S. Eastern Seaboard. During those happy and exciting years, the couple had two children, James and Lori, both of whom were with her on the day of her death. Lois was active throughout her life beginning as a roller-skater and majorette and continuing as a leader in Military Wives' Clubs, matron to the troops and their families, and member of the United Presbyterian Church. Upon retiring from the military, Lois and Bill settled in Northern Virginia where they remained, excepting trips to Acapulco, Geneva, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, California, and cities across the USA. One of her greatest joys was the time spent at their beach condominium in Bethany Beach, Delaware. Often she would pick blackberries and peaches with her young grandchildren and then make for them delicious treats to the delight of all. Lois' skills in the kitchen were legendary. Lois is survived by her husband, Bill; her son, James, of Falls Church, Virginia; her daughter, Lori, of McLean, Virginia; three grandchildren; and a great- grandson. A Service honoring her life will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Little Falls Presbyterian Church, 6025 N. Little Falls Road, Arlington, Virginia 22207, beginning at 1 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Ft. Myer Chapel and interment in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. SIPE MARY DOROTHY (SHEAFFER) Age 90, of North Versailles (formerly of Penn Hills), passed Sunday, July 27, 2014. She was born July 14, 1924, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Harry Dewitt and Catherine Henrietta (Hergenroeder) Sheaffer. She was a salesperson and manger for Tupperware sales and sold Avon products, loved to crochet, and had a booth named "Dorothy's Creations" at the indoor flea market in North Versailles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 39 years, James Paul Sipe, Jr.; brother, Harry D. Sheaffer; and sister, Catherine Hipple. She is survived by her children, James P. (Barbara) Sipe III of Wilmington, DE, Nancy Lynne (Robert) Hags of Pittsburgh, Janice Ann (Joseph) Bodnar of Pittsburgh and Pamela Jean (Dominic) Pasqualino of Latrobe; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Delores Schmidt of Palm Desert, CA; and many nieces and nephews. POLAK EDWARD G. Age 61, of Munhall, died on Sunday, July 27, 2014, in the comfort of his home with family by his side. Born in Homestead in 1952 to Dorothy (Mancak) and the late Michael Polak. He attended Homestead High School and received a football scholarship to Youngstown State University. Ed was married to Dauna Helen Koestline. They celebrated their 43rd anniversary last year. Survivors include his wife, Dauna; mother, Dorothy; his daughter, Amy (Brian) Tomasic; his son, Jamie (Jackie) Polak; and his brother, Michael “Mickey” (Kathy) Polak. Grandchildren include, Cal Tomasic, Chase Polak, Camden Polak, and Mia Tomasic. Also, Ed enjoyed his remaining years with his good friend, Jack Linsenbigler. Ed's pride and joy were his two children, Amy and Jamie. Ed's grandchildren were "everything to him." Ed was a strong man, a loyal friend, and a great family man. Affectionately know as "G," to his grandchildren. Ed told some, the "G" denoted his middle name which few knew was George. Others he told it stood for the word "Great." However, it stood for Grandfather. Ed Polak was the best grandparent a child could imagine! He will be remembered, celebrated, and missed. We love you "G!" LONGWELL BEVERLY ANN (NOHACH) Age 76, of Hampton Twp., passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 25, 2014. She was born in Butler to the late Nicholas J. and the late Genevieve T. (Critchlow) Nohach. She was married to the late David C. Longwell. Beverly was a longtime active parishioner of Christ Episcopal Church. She earned her teaching degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master's in Business Education from Robert Morris University. Mrs. Longwell was a teacher with Shaler Area School District for 35 years, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed traveling to Florida for relaxation. She is survived by her step- children, Laura (David) Lindt of Lancaster, Beth (John) Miller of Lancaster, Dean (Amy) Longwell of Hampton Township; step- grandchildren, Maureen (Karsten) Yoder, Michelle Miller, Molly Miller, Rachael Lindt, Dana Lindt, all of Lancaster, and Grace Longwell and Brady Longwell, both of Hampton Twp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Longwell.
