COCHRAN WILLIAM COOK Age 92, a resident of Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington, PA, died of cancer in Family Hospice at Canterbury Place, Pittsburgh, on Saturday, July 19, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles N. Cochran and Gladys Cook Cochran; his wife, Lambertine Baiwir Cochran; and his sister, Jane Morgan Cochran. Survivors include his daughter, Daniele Stern (husband Dan); his stepdaughter, Benedicte DeVleeschauwer; and son, Alexander; his brother, C. Norman Cochran; his grandsons, Eric E. Stern (wife Renee Ickes) and Marc A. Stern; and great- granddaughters, Maia Lu and Siena Teresa Stern; also survived by nieces and nephews. He grew up in Aliquippa, graduating from Aliquippa High School in 1939 and from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. in chemical engineering in 1943. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving with the Army and attained the rank of First Lieutenant and received the Silver Star Medal for his actions in the Battle of the Bulge. A technical consultant at Alcoa Research Laboratories in Alcoa Center, PA, where he was employed for 36 years, he supervised the development of processes for finishing aluminum which included the aluminum exteriors of the World Trade Center in New York, The Sears Tower in Chicago, and the Alcoa Building in Pittsburgh. Later, he was a consultant at EMEC Consultants in New Kensington, where he worked on U.S. Government research contracts and was a volunteer medical technician in the Foxwall Emergency Medical Services for many years. He will be remembered by all as a remarkable caring and loving person. No visitation. Service and interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa, will be private. DeLIA CARRIE C. (MAZZELLA) Age 98, of McKees Rocks, passed on Thursday, July 17, 2014. She was born January 10, 1916, in Benwood, WV, a daughter of the late Guy and Concetta (Mazzella) Mazzella. She was a member of the Madonna Del Castello Church in Swissvale and was an excellent cook, baker and mother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Vincent DeLia; four brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by children, Adele Perry of Robinson, Anthony (Joanne) DeLia of Orlando, FL and Guy V. MASON HARRY C., Jr. Age 88, of Leetsdale, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, in Heritage Valley Health System, Sewickley. He was born March 17, 1926, in Leetsdale, a son of the late Harry and Anna Poninsky Mason, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII, a 60-year member of the Doric Lodge, a member of the F&AM Sewickley, and the Ambridge Eagles. He managed the Leetsdale food pantry for 25 years and was a driver for the Pittsburgh Press for 42 years. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Bob Kott of North Hills; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Ruth Mason of Hopewell; three grandchildren, Samantha Kott, Kim (Michael) Gray, and Scott (Sheryl) Mason; nine great- grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Ford of Leetsdale. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Eleanor Mason; a son, Denny Mason; brother, William Mason; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Mason; and brother-in-law, William Ford. DITHRICH LEO J., Jr. Age 97, of Bethel Park, formerly of Baldwin Borough, died on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Mount Vernon of South Park. Mr. Dithrich is survived by his wife of nearly 74 years, Olive M. (Schuster) Dithrich, married September 10, 1940. He was preceded in death by son, John W. Dithrich, late husband of daughter-in-law, Charlene; and granddaughter-in-law, Kathleen Cecotti, late wife of grandson, Keith. He is also survived by his loving daughter, Diane (Mel) Cecotti; and devoted daughter-in-law, Charlene Dithrich; beloved grandchildren, Kevin Cecotti, Keith (Diana) Cecotti, Jill (Sam) Jessee and Beth (Brad) Shapiro; and six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Leo was the brother of the late Rosella Oechslein, Felicitas Kunzler and Wilfred Dithrich; and is survived by sister, Dolores Cupples; and brother, Melvin Dithrich. Leo worked for many years as a sign maker and sign painter, noted for his exceptional hand-lettering skills, and became a co-owner of West Penn Sign Company. In his younger days, he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club in South Baldwin. His great passions were travel and photography, and friends and family will fondly remember his carefully documented slide shows of travels throughout the United States, as well as overseas. After retiring from the sign making business, Leo took up painting, primarily landscapes, and learned to play the organ.
