SCARLETT VIRGINIA YOUNG AGE 92...

SCARLETT VIRGINIA YOUNG Age 92, died peacefully on May 8, 2014, after a brief illness. Beloved wife of the late James M. Scarlett, a Mt. Lebanon architect, she is survived by their four daughters, Caryl, Lynn, Kendra, and Tamara; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; spouses of her children and grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Jinnie inspired family and friends with her extraordinary generosity, subtle wit, and vast and varied knowledge of the world around her. She taught us the song of the wood thrush, the rhythms of the seasons, the wonders of words, the glories of art and music, and the textures of civilization. Her garden dazzled us. She embroidered and smocked and tatted. A graduate of Cornell University, with a master's degree from Mills College, Jinnie loved learning-whatever the topic. She studied architecture at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh. Ancient Greek philosophers celebrated the good, the true, and the beautiful-three universal virtues. Our mother, Jinnie, exemplified these virtues. Children were drawn to her, sensing comfort, unbounded warmth, and her joy in their joys. She touched the world and made it a better place. We love her.
