ROBERT J. FRYER Age 97, of Avalon, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, February 22, 2020. Beloved husband of 68 years to the late Jean Campbell (Menzemer) Fryer; dear father of Diane M. (John) Lux of Niantic, CT and Donna J. Fryer of Avalon; brother of Louise J. McWilliams and the late Larry E. Fryer; son of the late Lawrence and Emma Fryer; also survived by several nieces and nephews and other family members. Robert was a proud WWII veteran, serving our country in the US Army. He worked at US Steel as an accountant for over 35 years. He also volunteered at Suburban General Hospital in the Physical Therapy Dept. for over 30 years. He was a longtime member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Perrysville. DEAN LEON THOMAS Age 93, of Shaler Twp. born in Clovis, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2020. Husband of Mary Elizabeth Rogers Thomas for 73 years. Father of Pamela Walker (Steven) and the late Kevin Thomas. He had a special love for his three grandchildren, Kelly (Ray), Matt (Kris) and Kevin (Megan) and his eleven great-grandchildren, Danny, Jay, Roxie, Remington, Dylan, Levi, Cyrus, Jade, Calla, Addison and Lucy. Dean served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1948 and took a job with Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. He retired after 40 years of service as Chief Automotive Fabricating Engineer. He holds quite a number of patents which were developed during his years of service with PPG. Dean was the oldest of eight children. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Eddie and Richard and two sisters, Marilyn Reese and Marsha Thomas. He is survived by three sisters, Wanda Lauderback, Peggy Butler and Cindy Blair all of Clovis, NM. Dean loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of Elfinwild Presbyterian Church where he attended, served on several boards and participated on Mission trips in his 70's and 80's. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a time of visitation and reception with the family at Elfinwild Presbyterian Church 3200 Mt. Royal Blvd. Glenshaw. Born on March 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Sarah and James Sherron. Loving mother to Jo-Catherine (Bob) Westcott, Jeannette Parme Blum and Joseph (Paige) Parme. Cherished grandmother to Jamie (Joe) Walker, Lindsey Blum, Joel Westcott and Katie Westcott. She was also blessed with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lillian was preceded in death by her son, Jay Parme and her siblings, Frank, Nick and James Sherron. Lill was a proud member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. She was a skilled bowler and she loved to dance. Lill will be dearly missed by all. SHERRY (HELFANT) MALONE On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, Sherry Helfant Malone, beloved mother of two daughters, grandmother of three grandsons, and family and friend to many, passed away peacefully in Naples, Florida after complications from terminal illness. She was 73. Sherry was born on June 12, 1946 to Ethel (Blumenfeld) and Reuben Helfant in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sherry spent her childhood in Squirrel Hill, becoming an avid reader in kindergarten and continuing a lifelong love of books through her later years, especially enjoying the time she spent in the Cooper-Siegel Library in Fox Chapel. Sherry attended Linden Elementary School, Allderdice High School, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in History. She truly valued education and instilled that importance in her family. To every endeavor, big or small, Sherry brought her zest for life. Sherry had a strong personality, at times feisty and unfiltered; always clever, dynamic, funny and elegant. She was a one-of-a-kind woman who made an impression on everyone she met, from Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania to Jupiter, Sarasota and Naples, Florida. Sherry had incredible style, impeccable taste, and an appreciation for gardens, design and antiques. She took great joy in her beautiful garden at her Fox Chapel home, and twice featured on the Secret Gardens Tour for the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania. Her generous gifts to Aspinwall Riverfront Park, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and Fox Chapel and Allegheny Land Trusts preserve her memory in the landscapes she loved. Inspired by her mother's example, Sherry cared deeply and dedicated herself to many philanthropic organizations, including The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, the Ladies Hospital Aid Society of Montefiore Hospital, Jewish Healthcare Foundation, National Council of Jewish Women, and Reuben and Ethel Helfant Scholarship Fund at the Pharmacy School at the University of Pittsburgh. Sherry is survived by her daughters, Robin Heitner Koffman (Stephen) of Mill Valley, California, and Jamie Heitner (David Israel) of Los Angeles, California; her three grandsons, Theodore and Alexander Koffman and Jack Israel; her sister Carol Horn and many devoted companions, friends and family. AUDREY ELIZABETH BRUSH Age 84, of Mt. Lebanon, peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2020 with her family by her side, after a full life that touched many along the way. Daughter of the late John T. and Gwendolyn L. (Basim) Eberhardt of Elliott. Beloved wife for 61 years of Charles Preston Brush; devoted mother of Deborah Brush and Mark Brush (Christine); adored and cherished grandmother of Tiffany and Jackson; sister of Jack Eberhardt (Jeanie), Janice Hill (David) and the late Delores; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Audrey worked at Kaufmann's in Mt. Lebanon for 15 years and loved working with the public every day. She loved to read and play cards of any type and was a die-hard Steelers fan. Audrey was outgoing, generous, high-spirited and loved by all who knew her. No person was a stranger, everyone was a friend. She was the “Mayor” of Questend Avenue where she lived for more than 50 years. Audrey had a singular determination that remained with her until her last breath. JOHN P. "JAY" KENNEDY, JR. Age 63, of Forest Hills, passed away on February 25th surrounded by his family. Jay was the son of the late John and Helen Kennedy and brother of the late Paul Kennedy. He is survived by his loving wife, Andrea Orfitelli Kennedy, three beloved children, John (Megan) Kennedy, Jillian (Zach Fenstemaker), and Cara (Ian Stone), and adored granddaughter, Quinn Dawson Kennedy. Jay is also survived by his two sisters, Patti (John Zoretich) and Mary Ellen (Joe Kremer) along with his mother-in-law, Gilda Orfitelli, and many loved nieces and nephews. Jay was devout in his faith as a Eucharistic Minister and a past church council member. He was a real estate appraiser for 35 years. Most importantly, he had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. His selflessness could be felt by anyone he spoke with. He enjoyed pulling over to watch a little league baseball game, sitting with his family on the back patio & dancing to Motown in the living room. His humor was sarcastic and his smile was contagious, both of which will be missed. ELIZABETH EILEEN "BETTY" POTTS Age 91, of Wexford, PA, formerly of Weirton, WV, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 while under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital, in McCandless Twp., PA. Born March 25, 1928 in Wheeling, WV, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. Philipps and Gertrude Whitmore Philipps. In her early years, Betty worked as an operator at a local telephone company. Eventually she became employed as a teacher's aide at Millsop Elementary School in Weirton, WV, where she also accompanied the music program. She also served as an organist at St. Paul's Church in Weirton. Betty was beloved by all and made friends everywhere she traveled throughout her life. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Kathleen (John) Spencer of Cranberry Twp., PA, Barbara (John) McGee of Columbia, SC, Michael (Phyllis) Lafferty of Milford, MI, Timothy Lafferty of Raleigh, NC, and Daniel (Eileen) Lafferty of St. Louis, MO; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her extended family and friends, Sandy and George Zanos, Bill and Kathy Wolfe, Susan Ajamian, and Jimmy Dayoub; and several nieces and nephews. MARGARET A. LASICH Age 97, of Clairton, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 in Jefferson Hospital. Born November 26, 1922 in Clairton, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Myslin) Vossel. A member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Clairton, Margaret will be remembered as fiercely independent and politically aware, as an avid and knowledgeable Steelers and Pirates fan, as a lover of talk radio, but, most importantly, as an amazing and loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and aunt. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lasich, who passed away February 21, 1993, and her siblings, Anne Popcak, John, Paul, and Michael Vossel, Helen Bercik, Verona "Florence" Annel, and Joseph Vossel. Loving mother of Diane (Bob) Mitsch and the late Patricia (Jim) Emminger; sister of Nelson H. Erb and George W. Erb; grandmother of Patrick Mitsch and the late Kevin Mitsch; sister-in-law of Frances Beck; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Flo had a huge heart and enjoyed going out to lunch with her Wednesday ladies group. Above all she loved her family and always said "people matter more than things". DONNA M. WISNIEWSKI Age 69, of Bloomfield, on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Daughter of the late Bernard and Agnes (Lubomski) Wisniewski; sister of Rose (Anthony) Santonastaso, Lorri (Robert) Plawski, the late Laura Wisniewski and Tina Eckert; aunt of Nick (Carrie) Santonastaso, Becky (Brittnay) Santonastaso, Jason Plawski, Andrew Eckert, Allison Santonastaso, Christopher (Selena) Coghe and Ben Coghe; great-aunt of David Plawski, Aubrey Santonastaso, Alex Santonastaso and Emersyn Coghe. Donna was an RN who worked at St. Francis Medical Center from 1983 until they closed. She then worked for Highmark until her retirement in 2015. Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J.
