JENNIFER MARIE BITTNER ON FEB...

JENNIFER MARIE BITTNER On February 21, 2020, at the age of 42, Jennifer Marie Bittner of Pittsburgh, PA, completed her earthly race, walked through Heaven's gates, and was healed. Jennifer was born to parents, Kitty and Jim Bittner on July 28, 1977. Jennifer was the oldest of three children with her younger brother, Jarrett, and sister, Melissa. Jennifer graduated from Baldwin High School in 1995 and then went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Communications from Denison University. While at Denison, Jennifer was a member of the Track & Field and Rugby teams. She studied abroad at the National University of Ireland, Galway, where she was a member of the Corinthians Rugby team. After returning home to Pittsburgh following college and working at an advertising and public relations firm for a year, Jennifer packed her silver Volkswagen Golf to the brim, and made the trek to Washington, DC where she worked as a Senior Account Executive at a communications agency. It was there she took on a client that would ultimately become her long-term passion, Hanger, Inc. a national, publicly-traded healthcare company focused on providing orthotic and prosthetic care and helping people find restored mobility and achieve their dreams. Jennifer served as Vice President of Public Relations and Corporate Communications and President of Hanger Foundation. Over the years she created a communications strategy that elevated the company's story, brand and value on a national and global basis, securing countless media stories in outlets such as Good Morning America, TODAY, the New York Times, and The Doctors. She was also integral in helping the company establish a free prosthetics clinic in Haiti following the devastating 2010 earthquake, leading the charge for the recognition of the company's 150th anniversary which included a complete and massive rebranding, and leading the communications strategy surrounding the company's relocation from the DC area to Austin, TX. Jennifer was married to the love of her life, Rod Regala, on October 6, 2007. They were supportive of each other's personal and professional pursuits and were each other's biggest advocate and fan. After a diagnosis of advanced, metastatic breast cancer at the age of 36, Jennifer was told best-case scenario, she would have a few months to live. That was unacceptable to Jennifer, and all the others who loved her deeply. She didn't just fight, she LIVED during this time. Jennifer and Rod brought two boys into the world, Jameson (4) and Emeric (2), two little boys who love their mama fiercely, and are incredible little humans thanks to the love and care they received from Jennifer and Rod. Jennifer ensured those living with metastatic breast cancer had a voice and became an advocate for securing more research and funding to find a cure. After writing a letter to President Obama thanking him for his commitment to advancing precision medicine and sharing her story, she was invited to the White House by President Obama's Chief Data Scientist to attend and participate with the Director of the National Institutes of Health, the Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, and several world-renowned scientists and physicians in the Precision Medicine Initiative. Jennifer is survived by her husband, Rod; sons, Jameson and Emeric; parents, Jim and Kitty; brother, Jarrett; sister, Melissa; grandmother, Agnes King; mother-in-law, Clory Regala; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, all of whom were so important to her. Jennifer had a quote she read and took to heart every day: “Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light.” - Yogi Bhajan. Jennifer's life and legacy will be celebrated Thursday, February 27, 2020, through Saturday, February 29, 2020. Visitations will be held at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL HOME (1650 Greentree Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15220) Thursday and Friday, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard Parish (311 Washington Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15216) Saturday, 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Jennifer and her family would appreciate donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF.org) and METAVIVOR (metavivor.org), two organizations that support research for curing metastatic breast cancer. JASON ANTHONY BELVEDERE, JR. April 20, 1996 - February 14, 2020 Jason, 23, of Franklin Park, went to Heaven on February 14, 2020. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 20, 1996, to Annette and Jason Belvedere, Sr. Jason graduated from North Hills High School. He is survived by his parents, Annette and Jason, who loved him so much; along with his sister, Alexis; and brother, Anthony, who both loved him deeply. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins who are grieving at his loss; and his best friend John from elementary school who loved, supported, and was always there for him. Jason also had some true friends that genuinely cared about him and will miss him dearly. He was previously employed by Asbestos Workers Local Union #2, and currently working for Ray Donch "Body Werks." There was a private memorial service for Jason's family on February 18, 2020. Arrangements by THOMAS P. KUNSAK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3552 California Ave. at Davis Ave. Jason has struggled many years with depression and drugs. His family loved, supported and tried to help him to the very end. There were numerous people who cared and stepped in to try and help him. However, love doesn't always work. Please, if you or someone you know suffers with these issues, try to help them or get them professional help if they will agree. There is no shame in this. Unfortunately, Jason refused help and we lost him. He was a wonderful, polite, extremely intelligent young man, who could have done anything with his life. He was too young to leave us, when there was so much time left to make things better, where he could have done so much and lived a happy life. Our hearts ache and our lives will never be the same, but at least we had our son and brother for a while before God decided He wanted him back. His sister, Alexis and brother, Anthony shared the following at his beautiful service, and we want to share with all who knew him: I sat here staring at this piece of paper trying to find the right words to say. I've realized, there really aren't any "right" words to say. No one and nothing can prepare you for this type of loss. The loss of a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin, a friend. My brother was not perfect, but none of us are. Jason battled and fought things some of us could never imagine in a lifetime. Despite those battles, one thing remained unchanged, our love for him. My love for him. Jason and I had our differences, our disagreements, but at the end of each and every day there wasn't a single thing he wouldn't do for me or the rest of his family, and nothing we wouldn't do for him. For those who truly knew Jason, the people here today, know his heart was pure, it was kind. He was a free spirit and followed the beat of his own drum. I remember being little kids at the beach. Unlike everyone else, he would swim way out past the buoys. I can still hear my parents yelling from the shore, "Jason! You must come back in here!" Even as a kid he never had any fear of anything and that's something I will always admire about him. We are sitting here tonight with many tears being shed and broken hearts. Thoughts of what could have been, the potential he had. Even though Jason did not get to be on this earth nearly long enough, he made an impact on all of our lives. I would like to ask everyone to picture Jason as a small child running with his spikey hair and light up shoes laughing and smiling with his "kitty cat" teeth as our poppy would call them. I like to believe this is how he is in heaven. As much as we will miss him dearly, we can take comfort in knowing that Jason is finally at peace. He does not have to fight those demons, he is not in pain, and there is no sadness. He is safe and home, and one day we will all get to see him again. Jason, you are loved and forever in our hearts you will remain. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
