GEORGE H. KERR Age 88, of GreenTree, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019. Beloved husband of Eileen (Horvath) Kerr; father of Meghan Kerr, Erin (Nathan) Bastien and Kaitlin Kerr; grandfather of Benjamin, Natalie and Emma; brother of the late Shirley Noland; also survived by nieces, nephews and many friends. George was a Navy Veteran during the Korean War, also an active member of the Beadling Club and enjoyed bowling, shuffleboard and Bocce. George was devoted to his family especially spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Visitation 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the SCHEPNER-MCDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Ave., Crafton, where the Blessing Service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday. ELIZABETH ANN MAY "BETTY" 89, of Baden, formerly of Kennedy Twp., passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late John M. May; sister of Marge Unferdorfer and the late Lou Monks; loving mother of Janet Proulx (Mike Brake), Carol Stenzel (Chuck Lutz), Regina Vasselo (Dom), John H. May (Dee Bobincheck) and Bob May; cherished grandmother of Phil Wuenstel (Katie), Dominick Vasselo (Robin), Nicole Woodard (Mike), Kristin Vasselo (Rod Kosciuszko), Brandon Stenzel (Aubrey), Ryan Stenzel, Shannon May, Johnnie May and Mikayla Sallese; great-grandmother of Tessa Vasselo, Preston Woodard, Jaxon Woodard, Airyana Parilla, Cora Wuenstel and Ava Stenzel. Betty was an avid bowler and enjoyed baking, reading and was a strong supporter of her community through the church and the Jr. Aid Society of OVGH. Betty's career included running her husband's auto parts business and she was employed by Westinghouse Nuclear Division. TOM LEONARD WARDROPPER Age 78, of Elizabeth, went to be with the Lord Monday, December 9, 2019. He was born in McKeesport on September 19, 1941 and is the son of the late Harry James and Edna Samantha Littleton Wardropper. He was retired from the U.S. Navy serving his country for over 21 years. He then was employed at GE Apparatus Plant in West Mifflin until retirement. He was a member of Port Vue United Methodist Church and enjoyed travelling, especially to his place in Palm Beach Shores, Florida. He is survived by his sister, Veronica (the late Colin) Hemus of Belle Vernon; brothers, James (Norma) Wardropper of Dravosburg, Byron (Bethany) Wardropper of North Huntingdon; sister-in-law, Linda (wife of the late Gerald Wardropper) of Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Gerald. DR. HENRY K. GILLESPIE Dr. Harry K. Gillespie, retired pediatrician, age 94 of Irwin, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2019. Loving father of seven children, Mary Ellen (Joseph) Ferragonio, James (Ana) Gillespie, David (Rose Mary) Gillespie, Charlotte (Charles) Fisher, Sarah (Eugene) Pile, Elizabeth (David) Haushalter, and Douglas (Heidi) Gillespie. Caring grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle to numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Troy; and cousin, Lucy (Joe) Russell. In addition to his wife Eleanor, Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Loretta; and siblings, Richard, Philip, Jr., and Susan Mormon. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, a U.S. Navy veteran, and graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Gillespie was a longtime practicing pediatrician in Irwin and White Oak as well as at Jeannette and McKeesport hospitals, touching the lives of many patients and families over the length of his career. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin, where he cantered mass and served as a member of the choir for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #1480 Greensburg. Dr. Gillespie was ahead of his time when it came to enjoying the great outdoors, recycling, and doing his part in taking care of Mother Earth. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, his steadfast faith, his gentle demeanor, maintaining an active lifestyle, and his ever-present sense of humor. To celebrate the life of Dr. Gillespie, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, 308 2nd St. Irwin. The family will receive friends in the church vestibule 30 minutes prior to the Mass. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. He went on multiple mission trips, and he was instrumental with designing through the earth communication for the mining industry. MILDRED M. STINNER Age 90, of Robinson Township, PA, passed on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. Born in West Mifflin in 1929, Mildred was a resident of Robinson Township for 69 years and was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Loving wife of 71 years to the late Paul A. Stinner; cherished mother of Dr. Theresa (Daniel) Carroll, Patricia (Jeffrey) Deardorff, Dr. Deborah (Dr. Leonard) Ferrington, Cynthia Slayback, Nebraska State Senator John (Rita), Dr. Charles (Lainie), and the late Paul A. Stinner,Jr.; also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alquin Rogers, Paul A. Stinner, Jr., and grandchildren, David Carroll and Colton Slayback. A selfless and dedicated public servant, Mrs. Stinner founded the Robinson Township Historical Society and was its first president. She also founded the local Robinson Township Girl Scouts troop and the Robinson Girls Softball League. In recognition of her service to her beloved community, "Millie's Way," a Robinson Township street, was named in her honor and dedicated in 2014. Millie loved music and played in her brother's country and western band in the 1940s. She worked for many years managing the cafeterias at both the former South Side Catholic School and St. Justin Plaza Nursing Home. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of feeling her love and compassion. GERALDINE ANN (VARLEY) GOTTSCHALK Of Penn Hills, age 78, after a valiant battle, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019. Born and raised in Oakland, she was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret (Schmalstieg) and Myles Varley and her husband of 24 years, Ken Gottschalk. She graduated from St. Paul Cathedral High School and attended Mercy School of Nursing prior to devoting her life to raising her family. Later in life, Gerrie shared her love and compassion for others in her work as a case manager at Westmoreland Human Opportunities, as a direct care provider at Mon Yough Human Services, and in her home for many children as a Seton Hill Daycare provider. Family was everything to Gerrie. She was a loving mother and friend to her five children, Kathy (John) Samsa, Kim Demarco (Ron Ragland), Karen Feehan, Kelly Sweeney, and Ken Gottschalk. She was adored by her six grandchildren, Johnny, Sean and Katla Samsa, TJ and Mollie Sweeney (father, Tom Sweeney), and Christian DeMarco. She was loved dearly by her two sisters and best friends, Patricia Grandinette and Marge Harris. She will be missed by her many cherished nieces and nephews. Beloved wife of 41 years to Anthony Eperthener; loving and adoring mother to her three sons, Jason (Audra) Butler, Brian (Dina) Eperthener and Mark (Melissa) Eperthener; devoted and loving grandmother to Noah, Allison, Joshua, and Gionni; daughter of the late James R. and Helen (Militzer) Butler; sister of Kathleen (the late James) Schmaderer, David (Debra), Gerald (Colleen), Barbara, Robert, Daniel (Michelle) and the late James (survived by Toni) Butler; sister-in-law of Dennis Eperthener, Raymond (Maryann) Eperthener and the late Denise Taylor and Matthew Eperthener. CONSTANCE "CONNIE" SULLIVAN McCORMICK December 18, 1926 - December 10, 2019 Connie was small in stature and huge in heart and soul. She loved her late husband, John G. McCormick, who predeceased her on February 23, 2019. Connie and John forged a partnership that endured for nearly 70 years, making a family with six children, meaningful careers in public health and community service that benefited people in Western New York, Boston and the Pittsburgh area. Connie was proud of, and loyal to her birthplace, Bolivar, New York. She was as comfortable in her grandparents home as her own home with her parents Neil and Mary Sullivan and siblings Pat and Bob. Hogan and Sullivan relatives and childhood adventures were endless in Western New York, Canada and Boston. Connie always met a relative wherever her travels took her in the world. Connie's curiosity, intelligence and iron will compelled her to try a few colleges before graduating in the first class to earn Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees at Niagara University in Niagara, New York. In her mid-60s with kids in grade school, high school and college, Connie earned a Masters in Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Her passion was community health nursing and her motto was “once a nurse, always a nurse!” Connie's career took her from traditional hospital bedside care to school nurse posts, to the Guild for the Blind, to the homes of ill and indigent people all across the Pittsburgh community. Her commitment to social justice was reflected in her unwavering willingness to go anywhere and provide care to anyone in need. As her children grew, Connie took her experiences and knowledge of nursing to the classroom. Together with her sidekick Ginny Caretto, they team taught community health at Duquesne University, La Roche College, and the University of Pittsburgh. She loved running into former students and providing advice to those nurses who might not have had the good fortune to be in one of her classes. John and her surviving children, Catherine Ann, Neil Francis, Margaret McCormick Barron, William Patrick, Timothy Shaun and Patricia Ann Ackerman, were the direct beneficiaries of Connie's nursing care, along with neighbors, grandchildren and fellow St. Pius parishioners. The nursing satchel was always at the ready. When not dispensing bandages or more, Connie could be found daily cooking mountains of food, washing mountains of clothes and driving her kids and countless friends to and from school, football practice, band practice, jobs, Dormont Pool, just about anywhere. Somehow, Connie made sure to give each of us as much one-on-one time as she could squeeze into a day. Her love was dispensed liberally and continually through actions, small and large. When they could get out for a date, Connie and John enjoyed dinner and dancing. Connie enjoyed her evenings with the St. Pius ladies, formally known as the Christian Mothers. She claimed she was not a betting woman but she loved the sulky races at the Meadows. She reminded us regularly that she and her Grandpa Hogan had a running bet on horse races and that she picked a trifecta winner as a small girl. Swimming was a lifelong passion, from the cold waters of Cuba Lake to the even colder New England coast to the temperate Dormont Pool. Despite adamantly proclaiming that she did not like chocolate, her Irish eyes lit up with the offer of a Hershey bar or ice cream with “just a little bit of chocolate sauce.” Coffee was a staple but none of the fancy barista brews for Connie, only the basics. Connie knew and practiced the basics of a good life - love, faith and loyalty. She will be missed by her family and all who had the good fortune to know and love her. Arrangements by BEINHAUER. Family and friends welcome Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray (724-941-3211).
