She studied voice and sang in the church choir and for weddings. A member of St. Mary Magdalene, Yvonne prayed with the sick in hospitals. She was also an artist, and did etchings on glass and painted rocks. Yvonne is survived by her brother, Stanley Darkowski, and sisters, Faith and Emily Darkowski, all of Pittsburgh, PA. STEPHEN A. TOTTER On Saturday, May 25, 2019, Stephen A. Totter, partner of the late Robert M. Eppinger. Stephen was predeceased by his parents; and survived by many loving friends and colleagues. He was an accomplished singer and taught voice at Carnegie Mellon University and the Civic Light Opera. He was a former member of the Board of Directors on the Pittsburgh Opera and attended the Pittsburgh Symphony for many years. He traveled the world extensively and was an accomplished ice skater, participating in many competitions. Stephen and Robert were very well known for their party on Christmas Day, hosting many Pittsburgh friends and colleagues. EDWARD J. HETTICH, SR. Age 97, of Bethel Park, born February 17, 1922 in Hawthorne, NY, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2019. Beloved husband for 72 years to the late Dorothy Hettich; son of the late Marie and Emil Hettich, Sr.; loving father of Edward (Valeria) Hettich, Jr. and Betty (Dan) Huebert; proud grandfather of Jason (Kathy) Hettich, Douglas (Casey) Hettich, Kelly (Derek) Pollard (Huebert) and the late Amanda Huebert; great-grandfather of Alexis Hettich. Ed served in the United States Army Air Force from 1944 to 1946. While residing in NY, he and his wife, Dorothy were avid participants at Field Archery Tournaments throughout NY, CT and NJ. They both achieved many trophies in the Expert Class. Edward held the Office of President of Greenwood Archers and Tel-Star Bowmen. In 1965 he was appointed as a Federal Aviation Administration Airworthiness Inspector and worked for the FAA for 25 years. During his service with the FAA, he received several Outstanding Performance Awards and he received the Charles Taylor Award, the most prestigious award in aviation maintenance. Upon retiring he operated a consulting business as a Designated Airworthiness Representative for the FAA for sixteen years. CELA MASCARENHAS Cela Mascarenhas (nee Cecelia Margaret Mary Albuquerque) died on July 29, 2019 at the age of 84. Cela was born in Chakrata, India in 1935. She had an outstanding academic career, ranking first at Pune (High School) in her Senior Cambridge exams, first in Mysore State in her BA and winning university gold medals in English and French. In college, she was also the winner over two consecutive years of gold medals for religion in the South Indian Catholic Apologetics and Doctrine Public Exam. After finishing her MA in Economics at Presidency College, Chenai, Cela taught economics for two years at Stella Maris College in Chenai. In 1960, Cela married Maurice John Mascarenhas, (who predeceased her in 1995) a civil engineer working for Caltex, an American Oil Company. In 1962, they decided to immigrate to the USA. While her children were young, Cela held the position of Vice President and Treasurer of Mascarenhas Consulting Services, a company specializing in long range planning. She handled the accounts and the pension plans for the company. After her children left to go to college, Cela obtained from the University of Pittsburgh her second Masters in English Literature and then her PhD in English Literature and Cultural Studies. In all, she taught English Literature and Composition for fourteen years at the University of Pittsburgh. In 2004, Cela retired from teaching. Since then, at various times, she served on the board and as President of the Coraopolis Sewickley AAUW (American Association of University Women), Founding President of the STB Investment Club, President of the Sewickley Music Club, and President of the Woman's Social Club of Sewickley Valley. In her spare time, Cela was an avid bridge player and also worked on her memoirs of growing up in India and of her subsequent life in the USA. Cela is survived by her brother, David Albuquerque; two sons, Dinesh and Vijay; daughter-in-law, Stacey; and two granddaughters, Maeve and Mira. Cela loved English literature, writing, classical music, theater, bridge and travel. Travel was an important and consistent part of most of her life. She visited 75 countries. Her immediate family will remember her as an involved, concerned, and generous mother (and grandmother), who instilled values of character, learning, culture, and travel. Her friends will remember Cela's keen wit, and gracious, engaging manner. They knew Cela as a social person who loved being part of her community, and delighted in outings to symphony, lunch and movies with her friends. There will be no viewing at her request. WILLIAM FREDERICK WENNING, JR. Passed away peacefully on July 31st, with his loving wife of 57 years and daughter by his side. Born October 24, 1937, in Beaver Valley, Bill attended school in the New Brighton School District before graduating from Mercersburg Academy in 1955. He attended Brown University, and after serving as Chief Accountant at Fort Riley, Kansas, graduated from Geneva College in 1962. He then attended The University of Pittsburgh where he pursued an advanced degree in metallurgy. Bill was employed by Ceramic Color and Chemical Company for 64 years and served as President of the company for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Judith; daughter, Carolyn Wenning (Susan Veraldi); granddaughter, Ellen Wenning; sister, Eleanor Atwell (Dr. Robert Atwell); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ora Kohne Wenning and father, William Frederick Wenning; as well as sister, Ora Jane Hurd and son, William Frederick Wenning, III. Devoted aunt of Greg Majcher, Wendy Majcher, Walter (Jenn) Masilunas, Christy Colalella, Kelly Neiderhauser, Michael (Katie) Neiderhauser, Bethany (Mark) Semancik, and Matthew Racke; proud Godmother of niece, Wendy, nephew, Michael, and friend, Emily Tyler. Margie was a very loyal and active parishioner of St. Malachy's. She was instrumental in starting the Youth Group, Angel Tree, Living Stations of the Cross, and Bell Choir and kept active in them for decades. She was also a member of the Church and Diocesan choirs, was director of the Bell Choir, and was a member of the Worship Committee. Her selfless dedication and contributions earned her one of the highest honors in the Church, the Manifesting the Kingdom Award. MARY FRANCES (BARRETT) PRIMERANO Age 83, of Washington, PA passed away July 29, 2019 in her daughter's home in York, PA. Born April 4, 1936 in Pittsburgh, she was the only child of Irish immigrants Stephen and Mary (O'Donnell) Barrett and wife of the late Michael Primerano, retired PA State Police. A 1954 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Pittsburgh, she excelled in subjects such as collecting Pirate autographs at Forbes Field. Her love of travel led her to work as a reservation agent with TWA. After skiing in the Swiss Alps, sunning in the Bahamas, and riding a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, she married and settled on Diane Drive in Washington, PA. She kept busy baking pies with killer crusts, sewing gauchos, volunteering at St. Hilary School, putting food on the table for anyone who stopped by, and remaining mirthful while raising four girls in a house with one bathroom. She later returned to work and spent nearly 20 years at McDonald's hosting birthday parties and keeping the dining room immaculate. Her later travels took her from the redwood forests to the gulf coast highways, from the Cliffs of Mohr to midnight mass at the Vatican. A woman of spirit and faith, she had a quick wit, a prayer for anyone in need, and a God bless you to anyone who offered assistance. She excelled at geography trivia and loved reading, good coffee and Harp beer, tracking the weather, and keeping up on the latest restaurant offerings. While an independent soul, she had friendships that endured for decades and will be keenly missed by all. She is survived by four daughters, Chris (Morgan) Lambert, New Freedom, PA, Lisa Primerano, Pittsburgh, Michele (Romeo) Santos, York, PA, and Suzy (Jim) Graham, Fredericksburg, VA. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Jessica, Sylvia, Jonas, Calvin, Marcus, Mariella, and Moira. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Pleasant Acres in York who offered loving care and friendship and kept her snack drawer organized for almost four years. Dear daughter of Carlos Manuel and Liza Lopez Eiriz; maternal granddaughter of Mila Lopez, Dr. Carmelo Lopez and Robert Clark; paternal granddaughter of Clara Lourenco Eiriz and the late Abilio Alves Eiriz; loving sister of Isabela Lopez Eiriz; god daughter of Dr. Leo Lopez and Ellen Hancovsky; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Ciara embodied what life was all about. She lived every day to its absolute fullest and never went anywhere without her beautiful smile. A smile that lit up an entire room, followed by that laugh of hers that would turn anyone's bad day into a good one. She was a friend to all and the brightest light in all of our lives. Ciara grew up in the South Hills of Pittsburgh where she attended Upper St. Clair High School and was a member of the dance team. After high school, Ciara continued on at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she was a senior Fashion Merchandising major and a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. Ciara's life revolved around her family, Liza, her mother, Bela, her sister, her loving boyfriend, Shane Magnifico, and friends whom she adored. She had the kindest heart of anyone you could ever hope to meet. Ciara was loved immensely by all of those friends and family members whose hearts she will now live in forever. She was truly an angel among us with a soul too beautiful for this earth. Our goal now is to honor the memory of our sweet Ciara in the best way that we can.
