Leo was the third of four children of Leopoldo Martí and Angela Balaguer. After his father's untimely death, Leo was raised from the age of two by his grandmother, Tomasa, whose memory he forever cherished. In his century of life, Leo acted with integrity, discipline, and hard work. An American patriot to his core, he served during WWII with the US Army (1942-1946) in Curaçao and Puerto Rico, attaining the rank of sergeant. In retirement, he and Margaret traveled to Greece to fulfill Leo's lifetime dream to walk in the footsteps of Socrates. He was a voracious reader, spirited conversationalist, aficionado of Latin music, and loved being with family and friends. Above all he was a devoted father and husband. The five Roth brothers all enlisted in various branches of military service the day after Pearl Harbor. As a proud member of the Army Air Corps, Irv was never seen in later life without a cap proclaiming him a World War II veteran, and he became a charter member of the World War II Museum in New Orleans, making a visit there soon after its opening in 2000. He was stationed first in Africa, then at the U.S. air base in Bari, Italy, where he was a B-17 bomber mechanic and also rode with two missions as those planes dropped bombs over Berlin. Years later, with several others he had served with, he made a return visit to Bari the only overseas trip he ever took. When Irv and his brothers had all returned to Pittsburgh after the war, they joined forces to buy a big house in Pittsburgh's East End for their family. All of them then joined their father in his plumbing business, but Irv, a graduate of Fifth Avenue High School, soon decided to go back to school for the night courses at Pitt and Robert Morris College that prepared him for his lifelong career in real estate. Before the onset of his final illness, he was still living independently in that same family house on Jackson Street and continuing his longtime affiliation with Meyers Management. Irv's dearest friends of past and present have included the late Bob Leavy and Bill Laughlin, both of whom shared many evenings with him at the East Liberty YMCA, and members of his "Morning Gang who are now having their weekly breakfasts at the Wilkinsburg McDonald's without him. Golonski; devoted mother of Celeste (Christopher "Kip") Sobel and Denise (Curt) McConville; adored Nana of Jayme Lynn (Steve) Lewis, Charles McConville and Natalie and Benjamin Sobel. Ellen's life was very full and her family always came first. She especially took great pleasure in spending time with her four grandchildren. Her friends and family often stated that Ellen should have become an architect after overseeing the construction of homes in Pittsburgh, Oil City and Naples, Florida. Ellen took on leadership roles of two hospital auxiliaries, chaired gala's for Point Park University and for P.O.W.E.R.'s annual POWER Promise's fundraiser. She was also active with the March of Dimes, ATHENA and Easter Seals. Ellen and Tom opened their home to care for several family members and friends. Ellen was a true partner to Tom throughout their lives especially during his college and business endeavors. She loved to travel with Tom and her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. She took up skiing in her early 40's and loved the challenge of various ski areas in the western part of the United States. There were times when she and Tom would take off in his classic two-seater Mercedes to explore the countryside. She also cherished their annual motorcycle trips with close friends along the eastern coast of Canada and the United States.
