HOWARD WILLIAM "BILL" HARRY Born on April 8, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Mary Elizabeth Wagner Howard and the late William Edward Howard, passed away at age 89 on November 7, 2018 in Austin, Texas. From 1945 to 1949, he served in the Marine Corps. He was a business partner of Store Door Distributors in Pittsburgh prior to moving to Texas. Bill was the loving husband of Mary Marcile "Cile" Howard; he was preceded in death by his son, Robert "Bob" Howard; and sister, Mary Lou Howard; Bill is survived by Cile; his daughter, Susan Howard; and grandchildren, Emily Jean Howard and Joseph Robert Howard. Bill never met a stranger. His sense of humor and gift of gab made him a natural salesman. He loved getting together with his friends for breakfast and coffee. Maggie was loved by many, and her family meant everything to her. She will be especially missed by her husband of 53 years, Daniel Liberati; devoted mother of Daniel and his wife, Carin, of Cheswick, Nicholas and his wife, Lynn, of Ada, Michigan; grandmother of Miles, Mario, Roman, and Simone Liberati; dear sister of Barbara (late Don) Kiser of Harwick, Sara (late Michael) Liberati of Harmar Twp., Peter (Ann) Tarasi of Plum, and Mary Ann (John) Burns of Springdale Twp.; Maggie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Peter and Catherine (Merzlak) Tarasi. WALSH CATHERINE M. "CATHY" Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, November 9, 2018. Cathy was born in Youngstown, OH on November 21, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Clemente. She was a 1949 graduate of South High School in Youngstown. Upon graduating, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Mahoning National Bank. It was there that she met and fell in love with her future husband, Rev. Mr. John Walsh. Cathy and John were married on November 9, 1957, and they spent 44 wonderful years together until John's passing in 2001. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Maribeth and J.J., who survive her. A devout Catholic, Cathy was very active in her church, including the Altar Guild's of Holy Family in Poland, OH and St. Louise de Marillac in Upper St. Clair, among others. She prayed the Rosary daily and found great comfort and strength in her faith. A talented artist and maker of various crafts, Cathy was skilled in oil and water color painting, as well as ceramics, knitting and crocheting. She loved making creations for her family and friends as gifts. Cathy was also well known for her incredible culinary skills, ranging from her homemade pastas and sauces to her baked goods, especially her large variety of Christmas cookies, which she made yearly for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, as well as a sister, Teresa Colista and a brother, Virgo Clemente. She is survived by her daughter, Maribeth McLaughlin (Mark); a son, J.J. Walsh, Jr. (Teresa); two nieces, Maria Constantino and Loriann Kopp; and two nephews, Sean and Kevin Walsh; additionally, Cathy is survived by her four grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Patrick, Kaitlyn and Connor McLaughlin, and J.J. THOMPSON ALFRED EDWARD Alfred Thompson, 86, of Upper St. Clair, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 9, 2018. Beloved husband of Bonnie Thompson, recently celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary. Loving father of Bob (Pam), Bill (Karen), Tom (Louise) and Sheryl (Randy) Langlois; loving grandfather of Lindsay (Mike) Joyce, Jenny (Andrew) Givens, Jamie (John) Roberts, Todd, Katie, Paige, Erin Thompson and Maddie, Jake and Mackenzie Langlois; proud great-grandfather of Tripp, Liam, Lizzy, Nolan and Lucy. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Al graduated from the University of Illinois in 1954 with a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and obtained a Master's degree in International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986. He enjoyed a successful career at PPG Industries spanning over 33 years. Upon retirement, he was Chairman of the SCORE chapter of Pittsburgh, helping entrepreneurs grow their business. Al thoroughly enjoyed golfing with his family, and celebrated his 70th birthday with a hole in one. Al will most be remembered for his strong faith and his love for family. He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair, PA since moving to Pittsburgh in 1969. He held positions of Elder and Deacon and volunteered as receptionist for many years. But most of all, he was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa who will be missed by all. Al was preceded in death by his dear granddaughter Bonnie Thompson. ELLENBOGEN MARJORY (MARGIE) Age 88, of Pittsburgh and Highland Beach, FL, on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, peacefully with her family by her side. Survived by her daughters, Joan (George Handelsman), Lynn (Steve Safran), Nancy (Mitchell Feldman); and her grandchildren, Shellie Handelsman, Nicole and Tom Safran, and Zach (Natalie), Tyler and Lexi Feldman. Preceded in death by her husband, Alexander (Alex); their son, Tom; her brother, David Blons; her sister-in-law, Liesl Blockstein; brother-in-law, Bill Blockstein; and her parents, Agatha and Maurice J Blons. Margie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, attending the University of Chicago during what would have been her junior and senior years of high school, and then finishing her degree at Roosevelt College (now University). She earned her Masters of Education degree at the University of Pittsburgh. Raising her children was her passion and family was her first priority, but her grandchildren were her true pride and joy. Although she never really enjoyed cooking, family dinners were always lively and interesting, and no meal was complete without dessert. She made wonderful picnic feasts for frequent days of hiking in many of the local parks. Margie also taught elementary school for many years after her children were in school. She loved listening to music, especially when her husband, Alex, was singing. And she enjoyed hiking, swimming, tennis, golf, jigsaw puzzles and traveling. Margie was an avid reader, belonging to several book clubs, including the Brandeis book club in Boca Raton. Margie was passionate about her beliefs and worked tirelessly for better education, anti-smoking laws, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. She also volunteered at St Clair Hospital, the Boca Raton Hospital and for the Palm Beach County Court system, providing oversight of court-appointed guardians for the incapacitated. She was always ready to help someone in need and expected nothing in return. The family is forever grateful for the exceptional kindness, compassion and care provided by AHAVA Memory Care, an assisted living facility run by the Jewish Association on Aging. ALAHOUZOS GEORGE Age 87, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He was the husband of Pauline Alahouzos for 17 years. Born on January 17, 1931, in Kalymnos Greece, he was the son of the late John and Katina Alahouzos. Brother of the late Emanuel (Androniki). He attended Clairton High School. He retired from the Clairton Mill Works United States Steel Corporation. He was also the co-owner of Evergreen Landscaping from 1989-1999 in Rockville, MD. He was an active Member of the Masons Columbia Lodge 86 for many years. George loved sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pirates, and the Penguins were his favorite. Family was very important to him he always had a gleam in his eyes and smile on his face. In addition to his wife, Pauline Alahouzos, he is survived by daughters, Katina Tanner and Leona Thompson (Marty); a son, John Alahouzos (Eve); stepdaughters, Deborah Jesko (Kim), Patrica Pishko (Victor), Paula Robatin (Scott); brothers, Michael (Carol), William and John (Diane); he is also survived by six grandchildren, Bradley (Heather), Rikki, James, John, Alexander, Alexa; three stepgrandchildren, Phillip (Melanie), Sarah and Mackenzie; 11 greatgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews; former spouse, Barbara Alahouzos. STONE HARVEY WAYNE Age 89, of Aleppo Township, formerly of Moon Township, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Masonic Village at Sewickley, joining his beloved wife Eileen in heaven. Harvey was born July 28, 1929 in the family home in Coraopolis, PA to the late Philip Henry Charles Stone and Harriet (Foukes) Stone. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Harvey retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was employed as a rural letter carrier for 31 years. After retiring, he served for several years as a union steward. Harvey was a tireless volunteer to many organizations through the years. He was a Past Master of the Masonic Coraopolis Lodge #674, receiving his 50-year pin and held the position of Secretary for many of those years. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was involved for many years with the Moon Area AARP Chapter, including serving as the President. Harvey will always be remembered for his charity, his good and loving heart, and for his love of conversation. He was a loving and dedicated family man who cared for his beloved late wife Eileen during her illness. He will be greatly missed by so many family and friends. Harvey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen Stone; sister, Martha Besong; and brothers, William H. Stone and Harry Philip Stone. McCORMICK SISTER HELENA (BRIGID HELENA McCORMICK) A Pittsburgh Sister of Mercy for 75 years, died at the Convent of Mercy on November 9, 2018. Born in Pittsburgh, PA. She was 91 years old. Daughter of Frank and Mary (Mullan) McCormick, Sister Helena entered the Sisters of Mercy from Annunciation Parish, Pittsburgh in 1943 and made final vows in 1949. Sister Helena earned a bachelor's degree from Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) and a Master's in Education from Duquesne University. She taught at area Catholic schools including St. Paul Orphanage, St. Agatha, St. Xavier in Latrobe, St. Pius V, McKeesport, St. Paul Cathedral, St. Peter Northside and J.F. Kennedy in Washington, PA where she was administrator for 18 years. Nominated by her teaching staff and sponsored by KDKA Radio, Sister Helena was twice named "Woman of the Year." After her retirement from teaching, she volunteered at Mercy Hospital as a patient representative and in the gift shop. From 1999-2011, Sister Helena was administrative assistant at the Convent of Mercy. She was grateful for the gifts and talents God had given her to serve as an educator, and she considered her prayer life and community life as a Sister of Mercy to be the greatest sustaining gifts from God. Sister Helena was preceded in death by her parents; and her nine siblings, including Anna Mary McCormick, Grace Steck, Anna J. Schuler, Rose Cook, Theresa McCormick, Mary Kohl, Catherine McCormick, Marguerite Malone, and Frank McCormick. FRANCIS EUGENE M. "CHUKIE" Age 81, of Shaler Twp., on Friday, November 9, 2018. Beloved husband for 59 years of Jean M. (Strahler) Francis; loving father of Karen (Larry) Cooper, Michael (Diane) Francis, and Steve (Lisa) Francis; dear grandfather of Merissa and Matthew Cooper and Logan and Connor Francis; brother of George (Carol), Jim (Andrea), Duker (Cathy), Bill, Donna Francis, and the late Kay Jean Francis. NEUHAUSEN KAY CUSHING Born on February 21, 1944 in Pittsburgh and died on November 9, 2018 in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of the late George Byron Cushing and Margaret Smith Cushing. She grew up in Oak Hill Farms, Allison Park and attended Hampton Township schools, and later graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Academy in 1961. She attended and graduated on the Dean's List from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri in 1965 with a double major in English and Broadcasting. While at Lindenwood, Kay was the president of her sorority and general manager of the college radio station, KCLC. Following graduation, she held several positions with Gimbel's Department Store, KQV Radio, Civic Light Opera Association and was the General Manager of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. In 1978, she joined MacLeod and Grove as an account supervisor in the public relations division where she soon was promoted several times and would become a Senior Vice President and Group Manager servicing such national accounts as Gulf Oil, Brown and Williamson Tobacco, American Iron and Steel Institute, Heinz USA, Digital Equipment and Bell Atlantic, all while managing award winning groups of people. Kay was the recipient of many public relations and marketing trade awards, and was named Woman of the Year in Business and Industry by the YWCA of Pittsburgh. She was president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Public Relations Society and was listed in many volumes of "Who's Who." In 1981, she married her long-time love, Kenneth Neuhausen. They lived in Shadyside for many years and were involved in a number of social activities. They traveled frequently in the United States, Canada and Europe, and had a wonderfully happy marriage for 23 years until Kenneth died in 2004. Mrs. Neuhausen also served on a number of boards including Pittsburgh Public Theater, Winchester Thurston, Carnegie Music Hall and Gateway to the Arts. In 1993, Mrs. Neuhausen left Ketchum Public Relations, received her real estate license and began a second career as a real estate agent for the next ten years with Coldwell Banker, eventually retiring in 2002. She was a member of the Twentieth Century Club, Sacred Heart Parish, the Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania and Questers. At the time of her death, Mrs. Neuhausen lived in Point Breeze with her cat and enjoyed walking in Frick Park, cooking, antiquing, traveling and enjoying the company of her many friends, plus attending Bible study classes at Sacred Heart Parish. She is survived by her niece, Elizabeth Preston Mullaugh of Harrisburg, PA. There will be no visitation.
