NIEDERBERGER MARY R. "JEAN" Peacefully in her Dormont home, on Thursday, August 9, 2018, just three days before her 101st birthday. Beloved wife of the late Cyril J. Niederberger; devoted mother of Mary Joyce Niederberger, Margaret (James) Salas, John (Jean) Niederberger, Thomas (Marilyn) Niederberger and the late Jean Daley; loving grandmother of Stephen Salas, David Salas, Matthew Niederberger, Carrie Shick, Leslie, William and Patrick Niederberger; great-grandmother of eight; sister of the late Joseph A. Colgan; also survived by nieces and nephews. Jean spent her entire life in the Pittsburgh area, living in the Greenfield section throughout her childhood. She married Cyril Niederberger of Mount Oliver on February 3, 1940. Eventually the family moved to Dormont in 1954 (which at the time was like moving to Alaska) and Jean resided there the rest of her years. Her life was always full of vitality, whether ice skating in Panther Hollow as a child, going to dances at the Kennywood Park Pavilion as a teenager, meeting the challenges of raising five children, to finding a way to make sure her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a smile on their faces. The world changed greatly during her lifetime and she handled it with aplomb. Jean never drove a car but somehow always ended up wherever she needed to go. Jean was not a big traveler but she always spoke fondly of a trip to San Francisco in 1987. One regret was not making it to Ireland. Hopefully all who had the pleasure of knowing her will cherish her memory and celebrate a life well lived. Thank you for letting me be a part of all your lives. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of the Christian Burial which will be celebrated in Saint Bernard Church, Mt. Lebanon, Monday morning at 10. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
