YESKEY PAUL T. Age 95, on Friday, May 4, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Genevieve (Dreveniak); father of Naomi and the late Miriam Yeskey; brother of the late Lois (Yeskey) Campbell, John, Lawrence, Gilbert, Robert and Agnes (Yeskey) Blaha. Paul was a Navy veteran serving in both WWII and the Korean War. His most significant duty assignment was Navy Radio Facilities in Yokosuka, Japan. Paul spent his entire career working for Allegheny Drop Forge Company on the North Side. He was Vice President and part owner of this steel forging company. He worked his way up after high school as an office clerk. Paul was a person of style and grace. His favorite fashion accessory was wearing argyle socks no matter the season. He will always be warmly remembered for his brightly colored slacks and plaid suit jackets! Paul had many friends and family who loved him dearly for his integrity, direct nature, and quirky sense of humor! He was instrumental in maintaining close relationships with his brothers, sister, nieces, nephews and cousins. He believed in the importance of family and was the “glue” that kept the Yeskey family close!! Paul was a long time supporter of The Tamburitzans during and after his daughter performed with them. As a retiree, Paul and his beautiful wife, Genny and brother, Larry would travel across many states to see the Tamburitzans perform. The groups members would announce “The Yeskey's are here!!” and this would warm their hearts!!! Paul was a strong and loving person who will be dearly missed. BEARD MELINDA BROWN MARCH 25, ...

BEARD MELINDA BROWN March 25, 1937 – May 5, 2018. Age 81, never followed rules she felt shouldn't apply to her, and that included the primary law of physics. If you insist that energy can't be created, only conserved, then you never met her. Melinda was her own force of nature. She lived and loved ferociously and brought that love – that energy that really did seem to be self-created – to every human being she touched, and to every project she took on as her own. She was a Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate (which she never tired of reminding her messy children when being required to stoop to the level of picking up after them) of Connecticut College for Women, and earned a Master's in her beloved English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh. Until her children were born, she taught literature at Pitt, at Winchester Thurston, and to a special class of writing students in Pittsburgh's Hill District. Once her children reached school age, she taught literature at the dining room table, where the classes included not just her children, but their best friends and classmates, most of whom called her “Mom” and meant it. She was a past president of The Junior League of Pittsburgh, where she oversaw the creation of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the International Poetry Forum, eventually luring such luminaries as Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Galway Kinnell to Pittsburgh to read. As one of the founders of Vintage, Pittsburgh's premier center for active seniors, she raised the funds that established Vintage's first home in the basement of the East End Christian Church in East Liberty, spearheaded the fundraising again when they moved to their current home on North Highland Avenue, and then again when Vintage purchased and annexed the adjacent former Giant Eagle East Liberty location. As the longtime treasurer of the Fox Chapel District Association, she was both the matriarch and the bean counter who oversaw the transformation of the Fox Chapel Follies from a break-even community event to one that raised more than a half million dollars on her watch for local community projects and charities, including the Cooper Siegel Libraries in Fox Chapel and Sharpsburg, the Laurie Ann West Community Center, the trails at Squaw Valley Park, and the Aspinwall Riverfront Park. She will be remembered for all of those things, yes, but she will be remembered most for the thousands of lives she touched. In any other context, that would not only be an exaggeration, but a cliché to be stricken by her brutally honest red pen. In the case of Melinda Beard, it represents the use of one of her favorite literary devices: understatement. If you met Melinda once, she knew everything important about you, and you knew precisely how she felt about all of it. If you were with her more than a handful of times, she probably loved you, and you probably felt it. Melinda is survived by her brother, Ben Brown; by her King Arthur and husband of almost 58 years, Philip; by her children, Philip (Traci) Beard II, Amanda (Greg) Schaffer, Beau (Christine) Beard and Priscilla (Jo) Baker; by the truest joys of her life – her grandchildren, Cali Binstock, Maddy and Phoebe Beard, Kaitlyn and Hannah Schaffer, Zoe and Nate Beard, and Tyler and Jack Baker; by her great- grandchildren, Levi and Jude Binstock; and by her favorite place on earth, Van Buren Bay on Lake Erie. Perhaps most important, she is survived by all of the energy and love she created. In accordance with the laws of physics, which can now resume their dominion in her absence, that love can never be destroyed. Friends will be received at WEDDELL - AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Avenue, Aspinwall,, on Thursday, May 10, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Memorial celebration of Melinda's life will be held at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238 on Friday, May 11, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. The family will welcome friends at a reception afterward at The Fox Chapel Golf Club, 426 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, PA, from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Gifts in lieu of flowers should be made to either: Vintage, 421 N. Highland Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15206; or The Neighborhood Academy, 709 N. Aiken Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

WEISSBURG ESTELLE D. (HERLICK) Died, in the company of two of her children on April 30, 2018, in Houston TX, after a brief illness, which had followed a remarkable recovery, after a not-so-brief illness. Estelle was born on February 4, 1932, “the baby,” to Anna J. (Wanetick) and Harry B. Herlich, of Black St., East End of Pittsburgh. Estelle is survived by her sister, Adeline Edelstein, recently of Chicago now, Portland, OR; and predeceased by husband, James A. Weissburg; sister, Florence Rudov; and brother, Lawrence Herlick. Estelle leaves daughter, Rachel (James) Garner, and their daughters, Leah (Travis) Wallman, all of Houston, and Monica Garner, of Dallas; son, David Weissburg (Lindy Cassidy) and their children, Evan and Lena of Lexington, MA, and Steven Weissburg (and the late Daria Donnelly) and Leo and Josephine of Cambridge, MA. Estelle was active in youth activities at B'nai Israel Synagogue. Estelle excelled intellectually, and charmed all with her ready, giant smile, her guileless personality, natural beauty, and open heart. She was first in her class and valedictorian from Peabody High School. She graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1953. Estelle and Jim married in 1954 and lived in Whitehall, in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. They were a founding couple of Beth Israel Center, in Pleasant Hills. Estelle was at times, President of the Center, and also of the Sisterhood. Beth Israel was a central aspect of her life. Estelle worked at Carnegie Mellon's Hunt Botanical Library. She enjoyed Rabbi Solomon Freehof's bookbinding circle at Rodef Shalom. Estelle's most satisfying work was at the Cancer Guidance Institute, which connected patients with others similarly situated. A mysterious stroke struck her down in 1992, nearly killing her. But through her own and Jim's (and their many friends') truly heroic, and generous efforts, Estelle returned to living in her home in Whitehall. She later moved to Texas, where Rachel helped Estelle to live independently in her own apartment for many years. She also survived colon cancer, congestive heart failure, an aortic aneurysm, and the slings and arrows of daily life. She inspired all: exemplifying a heroic, honorable, always curious, life well lived. She was a perfect mensch. Her two mottoes were: “If you have a job to do, do it now;” and, “I think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I knew I could.” Services were held at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC. Interment Beth Jacob Cemetery, New Kensington. Contributions may be made to: Temple Sinai, Houston; or Hadassah, Houston or Pittsburgh Chapter. www.schugar.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
