BARKLEY GLENN O. AGE 73, OF PI...
BARKLEY GLENN O. Age 73, of Pittsburgh, lost his battle with glioblastoma on January 24, 2018. He was the son of the late Willis and Frances (Faust), a 1962 graduate of Zelienople High School and 66 grad of Penn State. He spent over 30 years working for Westinghouse- Adtranz-Bombardier in their transit division. His joy in life was his family. He was married for 51 years to his best friend Madeline and had two children, Jackie (Scott) Foor and Matt (Margaret) Barkley. He was the proud pap of grandchildren Darby, Nick, Keeley, and Olivia. Also survived by brother Harry (Margaret), and in-laws Loretta (Tom) Hauber, Fran (Denny) Fledderman, and Lucy Kopp, preceded in death by sister Joan Angert. While he was always a devoted Steelers, Pirates, and Nittany Lions fan, he was never happier or prouder than when he was watching his children or grandchildren compete. He rarely missed a game, even when he became sick he would watch online. In addition to sports, he had a keen interest in politics and current events. Always the competitor, he loved to play games, especially cards, and he won two fantasy football championships in one of the oldest leagues, the Pittsburgh Football League, with the Nittany Badgers a team he co-owned with his son and grandson. He was known for his dry sense of humor, joking with family and caregivers even to the end. He will most be missed by his family for his selflessness, generosity, and wit. At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral and instead will be a celebration of his life at a future date. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. D'ALESSANDRO RONALD STEPHEN IT...
D'ALESSANDRO RONALD STEPHEN It is with unimaginable sadness that we are forced to write an obituary for Ronald Stephen D'Alessandro, born on January 6, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of Bertha and John Matthews and Albert D'Alessandro. He is survived by his older brother, Albert D'Alessandro (Janet) and younger sister, Judith Concannon (Jack deceased). He is the devoted husband and best friend to Jacqueline E. D'Alessandro (Strucker). His legacy consists of four children, Ronald Bernard D'Alessandro (Misty Baker), Kenneth Joseph D'Alessandro (Adrienne Tiede), Bernard Joseph Herrmann (Beth Saunier), and Joanne Marie Hartman (Herrmann). His deeply loved grandchildren are Mary Hannah Lamberto, Zachary J. Herrmann (Michaela Burr fiancé), Austin L. Herrmann, Tyler S. Herrmann, Alyssa N. Herrmann, E. Justice R. Hartman, Cameron E. Herrmann, Muriel P. D'Alessandro, Josef S. Hartman, and Matthew C. D'Alessandro. He also was recently blessed with a great-granddaughter, Mary Jane Grigsby. Ronald was also a loved and respected uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ronald was well respected in the business community as the owner of D'Alessandro Stairs Inc., Cranberry Township, PA, which was in operation from 1976 until 2010. He was a longtime member of North Suburban Builder's Association and Metropolitan Builder's Association. He had been a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, Zelienople, PA, since 1982 and served on the financial committee. Ronald passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at approximately 7:15 a.m. in the company of our dear family friend, Rozann Lamberto. He fought tirelessly against serious illnesses until his body had to finally succumb. Friends will be received on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME of CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Rd., (724) 772-8800. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Gregory's Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, PA 16063, on Saturday at 10 a.m. Now that the formalities are over, we need to honor this man for who he truly was: A world traveler who visited 49 countries with his wife, Jackie, a hunter of 50+ years who never had the heart to shoot anything, a handyman who could fix anything his family needed repaired, a business man who only completed through tenth grade; however, had the financial knowledge of a Wall Street executive. He was a history buff and lover of reading, in spite of his dyslexia. He was a deep thinker whose Papisms will carry his grandchildren through life. Ron's smile lit up a room and his laugh was the music that his family danced to. Ron was an amputee who never let his absence of a leg affect his ability to run through life. Fly high, Pap, and watch us from Heaven as you have on Earth. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
