MEADE DAVID E. Age 68, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017, surrounded by family and friends after a short but courageous battle with cancer. David grew up in Beltzhoover, the eldest of five children of the late William and Dorothy (Crux) Meade. David was the beloved husband of 40 years to Kathleen (Kelly) Meade; loving father of Erin; brother of Paul (JoAnne), William (Maureen), Anita (Russ) Sidun, and the late Timothy Meade. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends. David was a lifelong athlete, a dedicated basketball and baseball player in his younger years who found a love for golf in his forties. He was a longtime member of Longue Vue Club, where he spent many wonderful hours with dear friends fine-tuning his game. David was a Steelers season ticket holder for decades, often regaling friends and family with his recollection of the feeling in Three Rivers following the Immaculate Reception. A CPA by training, David transitioned to a career in sales, work for which he was well suited and enjoyed immensely. David's family and friends will remember his loyalty, honesty, good humor, and generosity. Friends received at McCABE BROS., INC. She was the daughter of Daniel and Carolyn Platek; the sister of Keith Platek; the granddaughter of Edward and Cecelia Platek, and Mary Stein, all of whom resided in Pittsburgh, and preceded her in death. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and Rhetoric Communications and an Instructional Teaching Certificate in English and Communications from the University of Pittsburgh. She is survived by her husband, Gary Carnevale; a nephew, Andrew Platek; extended family and loyal friends. She will be remembered by loved ones as beautiful, intelligent, spirited and caring, an entertainer, a writer, animal lover and believer of fairytales. No visitation. O'NEILL SISTER M. FRANCIS XAVIER (Elizabeth Jane O'Neill), a Pittsburgh Sister of Mercy for 62 years, died at the Convent of Mercy on July 30, 2017. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was 90 years old. Daughter of Luke and Brigid (Kavanagh) O'Neill, Sister Francis Xavier entered the Sisters of Mercy from St. Andrew Parish in Pittsburgh in 1954 and made final vows in 1960. Sister Francis Xavier received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) and a Master of Education degree from Duquesne University. She taught in area Catholic schools including St. Agatha, Bridgeville, St. Xavier, Latrobe, PA, and Our Lady of Fatima, Hopewell Twp. Sister Francis Xavier also worked at Mercy Hospital in admissions and later at the motherhouse in Oakland in several capacities including coordinator of Mercy Hall infirmary and coordinator of health insurance. Sister Francis Xavier was a woman for whom nothing was “too much.” She was available for trips to the airport, emergencies, and any needed assistance. Although sometimes perceived as “gruff,” a beautiful smile and giant heart were the hallmarks of her life. As a woman of Mercy, Sister Francis Xavier lived her motto: “May I know myself, O God, and may I know Thee.” The last years of her life were spent in prayerful anticipation of a heavenly reunion with deceased family members. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, James, Daniel, and Edmond, and sisters, Catherine O'Neill, and Sister M. Francesca O'Neill, RSM. Sister Francis Xavier is survived by nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday, August 2, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. and 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Convent of Mercy, 3333 Fifth Avenue. Funeral Mass will be celebrated August 3, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, followed by interment in St. Xavier Cemetery, Latrobe. Arrangements entrusted to the EDWARD P. ALFF THEODORE H. “TED” Age 79, on Friday, July 28, 2017, of Bethel Park, joins his wife, Mardee, already in the presence of the Lord God Almighty. He worked continuously to provide a home for his wife, and two daughters, taking a job with Westinghouse Bettis, later called Bechtel Bettis. He retired in November of 2011. He was known for his intellect, his love for singing, his height, and his oftentimes unintelligible print and script due to being left handed in a right hand dominant world. Rege cherished his cousins, Della (Ed) Dobranski, Sean (Jill) Welsh, Terra (Kevin) Hartzfled, the late Terry (surviving spouse, Mary Lou) Welsh, and the late William Welsh. Rege earned his Bachelor's and his Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and became an Adjunct Professor in Pitt's English Department. He was a voracious reader who collected hundreds of books. Rege also cared for his aging parents and attended to other family and friends who were in need of help, conversation, or just some friendly companionship. Born November 8, 1955 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Alcuin and Henrietta White Schatzel. Mike was an avid coin collector and enjoyed going fishing. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Michael S.
