NORKUS ERNEST Age 97, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017. He was born on October 16, 1919, in Pittsburgh to George and Ursula Maciulis Norkus who preceded him in death. He was a US Veteran having served in the Army. He served in the European theatre throughout World War II. On a leave from the war he married his sweetheart and lifelong soulmate, Lucy J. Urbanek Norkus on November 13, 1944. She preceded him in death on September 24, 2009. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1953 from the University of Pittsburgh. He continued a life of self-education excelling in multiple skills. Ernie's greatest accomplishments, just like Lucy's, emanate from his primary commitment and devotion to family, respect, kindness, generosity, and gentility to all those he encountered. He is survived by his son, George J. (Janet) Norkus; a daughter, Nancy J. Norkus (the late Richard Wile); a granddaughter, Lisa (Matthew) Guzzo; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dr. Nellie Norkus, Stanley Norkus, Albert Norkus, Adele Norkus LaCasse, Edward Norkus, Richard Norkus, and Florence York. BUCKMAN CHARLES CHUCK Charles Chuck Buckman, of Upper St. Clair, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017, with family by his side following complications from COPD and CHF. He was born in Long Beach, California on March 15, 1939, the son of Anna B. and Delbert P. Buckman. He attended Long Beach Jordan High School, where he was active on the football and baseball teams. He served as a Boys State Representative, Student Body Judge and Boys League President.He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration, 1963. He participated in Freshman Football, Boxing, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and PhiPhi Social Club. Chuck was a veteran of the United States Army. He began his working career at IBM and later held several positions during his 15 years with Ford Motor Company. His work with Ford moved the family from California to Washington, DC, then to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where in 1979 he was a founding partner with Target Ford serving as Vice President and General Manager. In 1989, Chuck went on to own and operate his own company, Buckman Chevrolet-Buick in East Liverpool, Ohio, and in 2016, after 52 years in the automotive industry he retired as General Manager from Day Automotive Group. He enjoyed his diverse community service. He served as President for the East Liverpool Area Chamber of Commerce in 1997, as well as the President of the East Liverpool Rotary Club, 1996-1997. He also served as the Co-Chair for the East Liverpool Tourism Committee, the Vice President of the East Liverpool Business Association, and on the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army. In 1994 he Chaired the United Way Campaign of Southern Columbiana County. Chuck was committed to his family. He and his wife, Tracey Tighe Buckman, enjoyed travelling the world. Their love of fishing and scuba diving took them to many unique and exotic destinations. He was also an avid sports enthusiast and more recently, he and Tracey would enjoy winter escapes to the Florida Keys, or to visit their three grandchildren. Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Tracey, of Upper St. Clair; loving father of Tracey Whaley and her husband Garwood of Alexandria, Virginia, and Beau Buckman and his wife Jeanine, of Grants Pass, Oregon; and was the cherished grandfather of Morgan, Jacob and Bronia. HARRISON LARISSA (SPIRODONOWS) Larissa Harrison (Spirodonows) went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2017. She was born August 20, 1926, in Riga, Latvia and was a WWII survivor in Germany. She was a 57-year resident of Bethel Park, a proud naturalized citizen of the USA and was active in national presidential elections. She was an honored speaker at an annual meeting of the National League of Republican Women in Washington, D.C. and at that time was provided a seat in the U.S. Capitol in a section next to the Kennedy family for a speech by John F. Kennedy. Larissa was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and a devoted homemaker who loved her family and was affectionately known as Nana by her three grandchildren. Surviving family members are: her husband of 59 and a half years, Donald; two children, Donna (Steve) Hamer of Huntington, West Virginia, Gregory of Fort Lauderdale, FL; three grandchildren, Dr. Christina (Dr. Adam) Highberger of Blairsville, PA, Stephen and Matthew Hamer of Huntington, West Virginia. In her last couple of years of life, Larissa received wonderful loving care from the Kindred at Home Hospice organization. SHEA FRELY ELISABETH Age 75, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017. She was born April 24, 1942 in Alkmaar, NL to Jan and Agnes Nijkamp. Frely and her family came to the United States in 1958. She married Dr. Thomas Shea in 1961. Together they raised three smart and strong daughters. Frely was a dedicated advocate for causes close to her heart and shared that passion with her family. From pulling her children out of school to rally support for important women's legislation, to decorating her youngest daughter's stroller to protest the Vietnam War, no one can think of Frely without a fond memory of her progressive values. Frely worked a variety of fundraising jobs over the years with her longest stint being at West Penn Hospital. Her family has great admiration for the way she blazed trails for women in the workforce and mentored young women needing direction in their careers. Frely's likes include sharp cheddar cheese, flowers someone else maintained, and 1960's pop-folk music. Her dislikes include Fox News, the musical catalogue of Steven Sondheim, and Pittsburgh drivers and pedestrians. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved twin sister, Gemma. She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters, Cynthia, Jennifer, and Stephanie; sister, Atty; granddaughters, Emily, Riley, and Kendall; son-in-law, Harold; grandson-in-law, Sam; and a slew of loving nieces and nephews.
