SPRUILL LUCY C. Age 70, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away June 16, 2015. She was born September 29, 1944, in Washington, D.C., daughter of Leonard and Theresa Correnti. Her siblings are Frank, Leonard, Samuel and Lawrence. Lucy received her B.S. in speech pathology and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, where she later taught health care policy as adjunct faculty in the school of health and rehabilitation sciences. Lucy began her career working for the Women Infant and Children program at the Allegheny County Health department before serving as the Director of Roselia Center, a Catholic Charities organization. She left Catholic Charities to work for the City of Pittsburgh under Mayor Murphy as the first Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator. After this she initiated and served as the Director of the Attendant Care program for UCP/CLASS in 1998, and finally as the Director of Public Policy and Community Relations for CLASS until she retired in February of 2015. While Lucy had a long and distinguished career, she is best known for her dedication as an advocate for social justice, especially for the civil rights of people with disabilities. She was a founder, and then member of the Committee for Accessible Transportation, a founding member of the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Foundation, a member of the PA Developmental Disabilities Council, a board member and Governmental Committee Chair for UCP of Pittsburgh, a founding member of the City County Task Force on Disability Issues, and most recently served on the Pittsburgh City Planning Commission. She was a strong advocate for the Americans with Disabilities Act, and was honored for her contribution with an invitation to the white house for the signing of the ADA. Her advocacy for accessible transportation, accessible housing and access to public accommodations opened opportunities for many citizens of the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Lucy is survived by daughter, Jennifer; son, James; daughter-in-law, Mary Catherine, daughter- in-law, Deborah; and grandchildren, Francesca, Daniel, Patrick, Lucia, Sean and Katie. Friends received on Friday, June 19, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at the RAPP FUNERAL HOME, at 10940 Frankstown Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
