He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Reis; father to Kathleen (Tom), Jane (Dean), James (Amy), Cynthia (Bart); brother to Shirley (Bill) Anders; grandfather of 13 grandchildren. He retired from Westinghouse and he was a Westinghouse Historian at Senator John Heinz History Center. SPRUILL LUCY C. Age 70, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away June 16, 2015. She was born September 29, 1944, in Washington, D.C., daughter of Leonard and Theresa Correnti. Her siblings are Frank, Leonard, Samuel and Lawrence. Lucy received her B.S. in speech pathology and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, where she later taught health care policy as adjunct faculty in the school of health and rehabilitation sciences. Lucy began her career working for the Women Infant and Children program at the Allegheny County Health department before serving as the Director of Roselia Center, a Catholic Charities organization. She left Catholic Charities to work for the City of Pittsburgh under Mayor Murphy as the first Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator. After this she initiated and served as the Director of the Attendant Care program for UCP/CLASS in 1998, and finally as the Director of Public Policy and Community Relations for CLASS until she retired in February of 2015. While Lucy had a long and distinguished career, she is best known for her dedication as an advocate for social justice, especially for the civil rights of people with disabilities. She was a founder, and then member of the Committee for Accessible Transportation, a founding member of the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Foundation, a member of the PA Developmental Disabilities Council, a board member and Governmental Committee Chair for UCP of Pittsburgh, a founding member of the City County Task Force on Disability Issues, and most recently served on the Pittsburgh City Planning Commission. She was a strong advocate for the Americans with Disabilities Act, and was honored for her contribution with an invitation to the white house for the signing of the ADA. Her advocacy for accessible transportation, accessible housing and access to public accommodations opened opportunities for many citizens of the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Lucy is survived by daughter, Jennifer; son, James; daughter-in-law, Mary Catherine, daughter- in-law, Deborah; and grandchildren, Francesca, Daniel, Patrick, Lucia, Sean and Katie. DEBUSSCHERE RUTH B. Age 94, of Inverness, FL and Deep Creek, MD, died peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2015, of natural causes, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Debusschere, in 2001. She is survived by her sons, David (Jan) DeBusschere of Santa Fe, NM and Dan (Ann) Debusschere of Bethel Park, PA; grandson, Herman (Joanne) Engel; and great- grandchildren, Robert and Julia Engel of West Grove, PA. Ruth graduated from Carrick High School and Margaret Morrison Carnegie College (B.S.) in Pittsburgh PA, and worked as a chemist at H. J. Heinz and Duquesne Light during WWII. When her sons were grown, she received an M. Ed from the University of Pittsburgh, and taught 7th grade science in Bethel Park until she retired. Ruth and Mike traveled extensively after retirement, and Ruth continued to travel after Mike's death. She made four trips to Europe for performances by, and visits with, her favorite musician, Paolo Conte. On the last one, at age 90, she was accompanied by her dear friend, Nancy McCombs. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 15, 2015, 11:00 a.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Rd., Bethel Park, PA 15102. BROOKS KEITH A. Age 88, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, with his family by his side. Keith was born October 31, 1926, and grew up in Brentwood where he ran track for Brentwood High. He joined the U.S. Army in 1944 following in the footsteps of his brother, Roy W. Brooks. He was aboard a transport ship headed to invade Japan when peace was declared in the Pacific. He then served as Military Police in the Philippines and served in the U.S. Army Reserve for over 35 years earning the rank of Warrant Officer W4. He was an Optician for B. M. O'Hanlon in Jenkins Arcade in downtown Pittsburgh working with his father, Roy J. Brooks. Keith was married to Cay (Filer) Brooks for nearly 60 years when she passed in 2007. They lived in West Mifflin and enjoyed Aikido, Square Dancing and traveling. They traveled to every continent except Antarctica, visiting over 30 countries. Keith was a faithful member of Baldwin Community United Methodist Church, where he served as Lay Leader, Usher, at the Food Pantry and in whatever way was needed. Keith was father to Penny (Tom) Jones, Rev. Allan (Cheryl) Brooks and the late Shirley Blevins; grandfather to Tammy (Chris) Petty, David (Brandy Mazurek) Davis, Christopher (Amber) Davis, Ryan (Vanessa Pielin) Davis, Jennifer Blevins, Carly Brooks and Maggie Brooks; great-grandfather to Mercedes, Isabelle, Natasha, Colin, Kendal, Rylie, Ryder, Damian and Braxton. Friends will be received on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the parlor of the Baldwin Community United Methodist Church at 5001 Baptist Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. WEISSBURG JAMES A. On Monday, June 15, 2015, of Whitehall, PA, died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes, at Neville Place, his home in Cambridge, MA, where he had lived since September 2014. He was born in Allegheny Hospital in 1931. He was the son of Alex Z. and Lillian (Klein) Weissburg of Tarentum and Pittsburgh, PA. He is survived by his wife, Estelle (Herlick) Weissburg, of Houston, TX (formerly of Whitehall and East End (of Pgh., PA). He also leaves daughter, Rachel Garner, and James Garner of Katy, TX; sons, David Weissburg, and Lindy Cassidy of Lexington, MA, and Steven Weissburg (the late Daria Donnelly) of Cambridge, MA; as well as six grandchildren, Leah and Monica Garner of TX, Evan and Lena Cassidy Weissburg and Leo and Josephine Weissburg, all of MA; his brother, Melvin Weissburg and Anita Burke of Annapolis, MD; many nieces and nephews. James graduated from MIT in the class of 1952. He worked on the Redstone Rocket project in Huntsville, AL and for Chrysler Motor Company in Detroit, Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, at the Bettis Atomic Power Lab, where he was instrumental in the design of the reactors for several early nuclear submarines and Wachter and Associates Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering. He also worked on the cleanup of Three Mile Island. As he liked to tell people, he was both a Nuclear and a Rocket Scientist. Before moving to Cambridge, MA, he was a longtime resident of Whitehall, PA and he was a founding and longtime member of Beth Israel Center in the South Hills. Graveside Services and Interment will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at 12 Noon in Beth Jacob Cemetery, Craigdell Road, New Kensington. All are welcome. (Fozard) Kress; father of Thomas Kress, Deborah Sullivan, and Patti Frankovich, his Peep; father- in-law of Mark Frankovich; grandfather to Michelle, Terry, and Nicholas; great- grandfather to Anny and Ellie.
