TOOMEY Sr. MARY Passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015, after living as a Sister of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities for 69 years. During that time, Sister taught students in elementary grades for 25 years in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. After pursuing her masters in library science, Sister became a librarian in the various high schools staffed by her community, working in that capacity for almost 16 years. Upon retirement, Sr. Mary spent time as registrar for the St. Francis Nursing Alumnae for six years. Sister was always intrigued with technology and was quite skillful with the computer, especially as it was a means of keeping in touch with family and happenings in the global community. Sr. Mary had a sharp Irish wit and a keen memory which enabled her to hold everyone's attention as she told stories from her childhood and her early adult years before entering religious community. Although small in stature, she had a heart that was full of compassion and tenderness for those less fortunate. She was fond of saying “we are so blessed,” and we in turn can truly say how blessed we were for having her as our sister in community. Visitation at the Mt. Alvernia Mother House Chapel, 146 Hawthorne Rd., Millvale, Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Professional services trusted to the care of D'ALESSANDRO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, LTD. Memorial contributions may be made to the Srs. Of St. Francis Ministry, Formation or Retirement Fund, 146 Hawthorne Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15209. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
