DARLENE MARKAZENE Age 70, of Monroeville, died on Friday, June 12, 2020, at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 19, 1949, in Charleroi, PA to Andrew and Elizabeth Spisak. She married Richard Markazene on September 22, 1973. She graduated from the California University of PA, where she acquired her bachelor's and master's degrees. Darlene was a longtime resident of Monroeville, where she secured her first teaching position in 1971 in the Gateway School District and retired 35 years later. She held several teaching positions which included a third-grade teacher, Reading and Math Resource teacher, and Gifted Education teacher. Gifted with intellect, caring, sharing and giving, and passed those qualities on to a lovely daughter and granddaughter. Her love of God and family, and her boundless generosity, were central to her life and touched all who knew her. Darlene's beautiful spirit is etched in our memories and will be with us until we join her in an eternal walk with the Lord. Darlene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Greensburg, PA, where she faithfully served in a variety of capacities including Sunday School teacher and financial and secretarial positions. She never failed to give her testimony of God's goodness in her life even when her health was failing. Darlene was defined by the love and generosity that she had for other people. She always thought of others first, second and third before she ever thought of herself. She woke up each day thinking of what she could do for others to make them happy, even during her last days, she instructed her family to buy gifts and/or send food to other people. Her pride and joy was her only granddaughter, Leah Elizabeth, who consumed most of her free time. Her devotion and self-sacrificing to her family was unsurpassed. Darlene was the beloved wife of Richard Markazene; mother of Shelley Markazene Coughter (Peter); grandmother of Leah Elizabeth; sister of Mary Ann Keener (Fred), Alice Saeli (Joe); sister in-law of Marcella Sutherland (Al); aunt to Scott Sutherland, Brian Sutherland (Wendy), Marcy Sutherland, Anthony Saeli (Julie), Robert Bays, and Cindy Lea Thomas; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. DANIEL McCAFFREY Age 57, from Darlington, SC, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Canonsburg, PA, a son of Patrick Joseph McCaffrey and the late Marie Elizabeth Graytok McCaffrey. He graduated from Kiski Area High School and then began his career in the Navy. After his Honorable Discharge, he began working for Patrick McCaffrey Incorporated selling steel products. He was husband to Marge Rose and they shared 25 years together. They lived in Pittsburgh until 2019. Danny devoted his life to helping those with addiction, he volunteered in many organizations and rescued dogs. He loved motorcycles and was a self taught guitarist. He is remembered and loved for his non-judgmental, generous spirit. He is survived by his wife, Marge Rose; her daughters, Judi and Becca; his father, Patrick McCaffrey; and his loving step-mother, Julia McCaffrey; his sister, Carolyn Loaskie; brothers, Patrick, Michael, Kevin, and John; a host of family members and many close friends, especially, Kalil Reeves. RICHARD E. VANCE Age 84, of Dorseyville, Indiana Township, died Saturday, June 13, 2020, at the VA Regional Hospital, Aspinwall, with his family by his side. He was born December 16, 1935, in Pittsburgh, to the late Robert A. and Catherine (Meyers) Vance, Sr. Rich graduated in 1953 from Allegheny Vocational School. He served his country in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of SP-3. Rich worked for Westinghouse in Harmar as a welder and machinist for over 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Russellton, a life member of Dorseyville VFD, Dorseyville, where he served as past chief and the IBEW Local 1916 and was a former officer. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his friends and family. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Alice J. (Flaharty) Vance; his sons, John J. (Katie) Wilson of Indiana Township and Richard J. Vance of Daytona Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Paige Wilson, Robert (Kelsey), Noel, Maura and Brittany; 3three great-grandchildren; and his brother in heart, Joseph (Agnes) Noseck of Dorseyville. MARGARET ROSE (COLL) REMY On Thursday, June 11, 2020, Margaret Rose was welcomed into the arms of our Lord, surrounded by His angels and her loved ones. Rose celebrated her 96th birthday on June 9. She was a resident of Pine Township, Allegheny County. Rose is the daughter of Margaret (Crawshaw) and Fred Coll, of Pittsburgh Northside, and the beloved wife of Charles for 60 wonderful years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; her in-laws, Nick and Lillian (Seskey) Remy; her siblings, Irene and Pete Petrakos, Lory and Joe Conroy, John and Wilma Coll, Anne and George Eck; and her sisters-in-law, Jane Kaufmann Coll, and Lil and Joe Scott. She is survived by her sister, Jenny Col; and her brother, Fred (Pat) Coll. Mother of Margaret (Lon) Folino, Patricia Remy, Mary Remy and Janet (John) Helbling. Loving grandmother of eight and their spouses; and great-Grandma Rose to nine. Rose was loved and is remembered by several generations of nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends. A graduate of St. Peters North Side and St. Benedict Academy, Rose worked at Western Union during World War II, where she would later meet and marry Charles. Her Catholic faith was the core of her beliefs and of her life choices. Her legacy to her children was their catholic faith and education. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Church, Wexford. Rose and Chuck loved their family and home first. They enjoyed and welcomed all visitors. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada --- by car, trailer, camper and motorhome --- Rose, the navigator; Chuck the driver. CHARLES J. STRAIN Age 63, of Harmar Twp., passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 13, 2020, with his family at his side. He was born May 23, 1957 to his parents, the late William and Frances Iriti Strain and has been a lifelong resident of the community. Mr. Strain worked for Renton Coal Mine before it's closure and most recently at Shadyside Honda where he eventually retired. Charles was a former member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Harwick. He enjoyed coaching and volunteering his time with Lower Valley Little League, AVYF Football, Connolly's basketball and Harmar soccer Club. Charles played for the great Springdale American Legion Baseball teams of the 70s and was inducted into Fox Chapel Sports Hall of Fame for Baseball and Football where he graduated. He was a season ticket holder for The Pittsburgh Steelers and loved all Pittsburgh sports and especially his American Flyer Trains He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Mark, a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, is survived by his two children, Samuel Vernon Clement and Rachel Lee Clement (fiance, Endre Stogard); his grandson, Oliver Ash Stogard; his beloved ex-wife, Lisa; and four brothers, William Clement, Donald Clement, David Clement, and Robert Clement. ROBERT JAMES HADDEN Age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2020. He was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on February 5, 1929, the son of James Harvey and Dorothy Rush Hadden, both of Beacon, New York. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan in 1951, where he played saxophone in the school's marching band and performed in the 1951 Rose Bowl game. While there he cared for a beloved bulldog mascot named Mike. Later, he attended Harvard Business School. His nearly four decade career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation involved a number of moves across the country, and spanned industries including defense, space, nuclear instrumentation, career training for underprivileged youth (Job Corps), and installing people mover systems in airports around the world. He was especially fond of recalling his time spent with test pilots, like Chuck Yeager, while proving the accuracy of experimental electronic systems in jet airplanes in the early 1950's. After retiring, he spent the next three decades committed to organizations like Meals on Wheels of Peters Township, The Special Olympics of Allegheny County, and as a volunteer ombudsman at local retirement homes. He often arranged parties on Steeler game days at the retirement facilities and led field trips to watch the Washington Wild Things play baseball. An avid golfer, he played the game for 80 years, the last 20 years with a tight knit group of friends who relentlessly prowled the links inand around McMurray, PA. Bob was also a Steelers season ticket holder from 1968 and witnessed the Immaculate Reception from the stands. He is survived by Kathleen Echon Hadden, his loving wife of more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Furlong Hadden, and his sister, Marla Hadden Caul. He is survived by his four children, Laura, Steve, and Marcie Hadden, and Kate White; a niece and nephew, Luanne and Bruce Griffing; his seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. LILA L. BENSON Of Sewickley, passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 15, 2020. Born in Bellevue on January 24, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Cecelia (Young) and Walter Aurin. Lila met the love of her life, Arthur Benson, in 1945 when he moved from West Virginia to Coraopolis and they became classmates. Five years later, they were married by an intimate candlelit ceremony on October 21, 1950. Her passion in life was being a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Lila loved flowers and could always be found tending to her numerous gardens. She also loved polka dancing with her brothers at family gatherings. Lila had a hidden artistic talent and was excellent at drawing and painting. Lila is survived by her loving husband of over 69 years, Arthur Benson; cherished children, Theodore Benson (Donna), Timothy Benson (Tracy), and Karen Benson; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Aurin; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. PAUL WALLACE WYSONG Age 87, of Mt. Washington, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020. Beloved husband of 67 years to Betty (Jackson) Wysong; loving father of Juan C. Wysong, Sr. (Deitra) and Pippa Y. Wysong; cherished Pap Pap of Kelli L., Juan C., Jr., Erin Y., Jacelyn NP; beloved brother of Gilbert Wysong, Vanetta Lewis and the late Anna Ruth Dunmore of Baltimore, MD and Grace Applewhite of Compton, CA; also survived by five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Paul was a master social worker for the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County and a longtime member of Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church. Visitation Thursday, June 18, 2020, 2-8 p.m. WM. PAULETTE MARIE SMITH Peacefully at home, with her family by her side, on Friday, June 12, 2020. Wife of the late William J. "Droopy Drawers" Smith; loving mother of Paul "Smitty" (Carolyn), Robert "Critter" Smith, Karen (David) Rubolino and Sharon (Daniel) DelBianco; sister of the late Bernard Tarnek and Jacqueline "Jeanne" Shavensky; grandmother of Amiee (Tim) Lesko, Scott Smith, Isabella Rubolino and Joseph DelBianco; great-grandmother of Irelyn Lesko. Paulette was a graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing and was employed as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years at Mayview State Hospital. Friends would know her as the neighborhood mom, where all the kids would know they would be well fed and kept safe. No public visitations. RALPH D. TAMBURRO Passed away unexpecterdly on Sunday, June 14, 2020. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Debbie; his daughters, Shelby (Jim) Doloughty, and Morgan (Richard) Withee. Loving pap pap of Aiden Doloughty, Mason, and Charlotte Withee, and his four legged sidekick, Jack. Forever in our memories will be the intense rummikub games that Ralph won more times than not and his renowned pizzelles made in mass at Christmas and given out as gifts by the dozens. Ralph was a big personality with a servant's heart and hands. Not only did he make you feel better when he saw you but sent everyone off with "Keep Smiling!" Until we meet again, Keep smiling! He was a member of Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Dept. 224 and a member of Bethel United Presbytarian Church.
