DANNY P. CERRONE Of Penn Hills, age 65, unexpectedly on Friday, February 28, 2020. Dan was the beloved husband of Sharon (Reichert) Cerrone for 40 years. Loving father of Danny P. (Shannan) Cerrone, Jr. of South Fayette, Melissa Cerrone and Stephanie (Dan) Rooney, both of Pittsburgh. Cherished grandfather of Amelia and Miles Cerrone. Precious son of Betty (Skurnick) and the late Francis Cerrone. Brother of Gary (Margie) Cerrone of Bethel Park. Son-in-law of the late Harold and late Loretta Reichert. Dan was a 1972 graduate of St. Thomas High school in Braddock and a 1976 graduate of Carnegie Mellon where he earned his Civil Engineering degree. He spent his entire career as a civil engineer and traveled throughout the world. He was first hired by USSteel and worked with USSteel until he was a victim of the massive layoffs in the early 1980s. Since then Dan has worked for a variety of companies but always in his career of designing and engineering equipment for the steel industry. For some companies, he was involved with the sales of the equipment. His career came full circle as he was currently employed with USSteel, taking great pride in his latest design work of a mini mill in Ohio. Dan was a member and President of the Primavera Lodge #149 of the Italian Sons and Daughter of America. He also served on the National Board of Directors of the ISDA and was a National Councilor for the ISDA in Western PA. Dan enjoyed being a member of the Good Shepherd Parish Choir and also delighted in making wine, limoncello and Italian meats. When his children were young, Dan was a coach for their youth soccer teams. He loved travelling with Sharon, taking in the activities of Amelia and Miles and spending any time with his beloved family. Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. GERALDINE M. "GERRIE" NOVAK McCABE Age 93, of North Huntingdon, on Saturday, February 29, 2020, in the AHN Forbes Hospital. She was born August 12, 1926, in Munhall, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Haky) Novak. Gerrie was once employed in the cafeteria at Norwin Senior High School. She was a 60 year member of St. Agnes Church of North Huntingdon, the church's Emerald club, the Resurrection Choir, the Alter Rosary Society, and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the AARP # 3221, of North Huntingdon and Branch 42 of the Ladies Pennsylvania Slovak Union. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William T. McCabe; a son-in-law, Edward Carnathan; and a brother, Richard Novak. Surviving are four children, Janice Carnathan of Carlsbad, NM, Barbara Smith and her husband, Doug, of North Huntingdon, William J. A resident of Ohioville for over 60 years, Julia was a faithful member of St. Blaise Parish, Midland, where she was active with the Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers Guild, St. Anthony Ladies Guild, and St. Vincent DePaul Society. She also made rosaries for the parish and was a money-counter. In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Albert F. Modany, Sr in April, 2009; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas G. and Jeanne Modany; grandson, Anthony T. Modany; sisters, Mary Trella, Anna Nunzir, Helen Neese, and Josephine Seech; brother, George Heidel; brothers-in-law, Pete Trella, John Nunzir, Joseph J. STEPHEN JOSEPH PAVLO Stephen Joseph Pavlo, 96, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2020, with his loving family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, John Pavlo and Elizabeth (Levkus) Pavlo, and sisters, Rita Kalinowski and Evelyn Denisevich. Stephen attended Harding High School and continued his education at the University of Connecticut to study Engineering. From 1942-1943 he worked at Vaught-Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, Stratford CT, as an Engineering Draftsman designing the first Sikorsky helicopter, the VS-300. Between 1943-1946 Stephen proudly served his country in the midst of WWII by joining the United States Navy, where he was stationed on an Edsall-Class Destroyer Escort, the USS Haverfield, DE-393, as a Chief Motor Machinist's Mate. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He received an honorable discharge and was the recipient of two Presidential Unit Citations, the American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, Victory Medal, European Theater Medal, Commendation Ribbon, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Stephen worked as a Cost Estimation Engineer for over 30 years at Trio Industries, Bridgeport, CT, an architectural metal window, door, and panel fabricator, responsible for a large number of skyscraper building construction projects in major US cities. He then worked at LFE Fluid Controls Division, Hamden, CT for many years as a Cost Estimation Engineer. Stephen was an active member of Saint Theresa's Church, Trumbull, CT for over sixty years, and had been a past president of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed bowling with the St. Teresa Men's League well into his early nineties. Home and car repair projects were Stephen's passion, and when Stephen was not at home fixing something or another, he was quick to be at the home of one his children, relatives, and neighbors in need, offering his time, sage technical wisdom, and lending a hand on never-ending projects and problems of others. His technical expertise proved invaluable countless times, and his signature tag line was always, If I Can't Fix It, It's Junk. Stephen enjoyed working on his prized 1956 Packard automobile, polka dancing, cooking hot, spicy foods, and playing music on his accordion and harmonica at family events. He was a very strong family man who loved his wife and children tremendously. Stephen leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Mary Louise (Drobne) Pavlo, and his children, Christine Babina (David) of Oxford, Connecticut; John Pavlo (Stephanie) of Oxford, Connecticut; Stephanie Dancsak (David) of The Woodlands, Texas; and Robert Pavlo (Rachel Harrington-Pavlo) of Milford, Connecticut. In addition, he leaves behind his loving granddaughters Arianne Babina (Adam Kirsch) of Uppsala, Sweden; Melissa Babina (Jacob Drozd) of El Paso, Texas; Samantha Pavlo of Oxford, Connecticut, and great-granddaughter, Ava Hayden of Milford, Connecticut; also, grandsons, Gregory Babina of Milford, Connecticut and Benjamin Pavlo of Oxford, Connecticut, and his constant companion and loyal cat, Dobie. DR. RAYMOND SESTI BONIFACE Age 95, of Poland, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020. He was born on August 6, 1924, in the Bloomfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Boniface was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh and Duquesne University in 1948. After returning from the war he received his medical degree from the University of Bologna in Italy. He opened his general medical practice in 1954, and then specialized in psychiatry in 1968 after a residency at Western Psychiatric Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. JAMES W. OBRINGER Age 87, of Eighty Four, Nottingham Township, died Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born June 21, 1932 in Wilmerding, a son of the late Walter and Agnes Marflak Obringer. Mr. Obringer was retired as a design draftsman with the former Mesta Machine in Pittsburgh and as a bus driver for Peters Township School District. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville, the Pittsburgh South Hills Keystone Chorus, Washington Festival Chorale and was an original founder of the Thomas Youth League. Surviving are his wife, Lois Woistman Obringer, two sons, Michael Obringer of Eighty Four and Leonard Obringer (Terri) of Carnegie; two daughters, Karen Mathianas (Shawn) of Beaver and Christine Ambler (David) of Wharton ,NJ; two brothers, Regis Obringer of Pittsburgh and William Obringer of Hernado, FL; five grandchildren, Joshua (Donn), Ashley, Adam, Ashleigh and Ben; one great-grandson, Jayme; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at KEGEL FUNERAL HOME, INC., Tim P. Kegel, supervisor, David P. Kegel, director, 3560 Washington Avenue, in Finleyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Finleyville, with Reverend Richard J. Tusky as celebrant. STELLA KRAVETSKY AGE 86, OF BE...
STELLA KRAVETSKY Age 86, of Bell Township, formerly of Bellevue, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 in Monroeville Rehab and Wellness Center. Born May 30, 1933 in Bell Township, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Horney) Krywecki. Stella was a graduate of Bell Township High School. She was a secretary for Koppers of Pittsburgh for many years until her retirement in 1998. Stella was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Church of the Assumption in Bellevue. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and gardening. Stella loved the companionship of her German Shepherd, Thor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Kravetsky; sisters, Catherine and Anna Kravetsky. Stella is survived by her sister, Mary Jaconetta of Ingram; brother, Charles Kravetsky of Bell Township; and numerous nieces and nephews. At Stella's request, there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church 703 Indiana Ave., Saltsburg, PA 15681 Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10 a.m. with Father John Harrold as celebrant. (Everyone please meet at Church). Burial will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery.
