DAVID L. WYKOFF Of Monroeville, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Beloved husband of Mary (Donohue) Wykoff for 33 years; loving father of Caitlin (Daniel) Stritmatter of Trafford; brother of Daniel (Linda) Wykoff and the late Sandra Wykoff; also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Dave served in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and went on to receive a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering from of the University of Pittsburgh. He built a notable career as a Mortgage Banker for Patriot Lending. As a longtime member of Edgewood Country Club, he was an avid golfer and gin rummy player. Dave was a member of the Churchill-Wilkins Rotary Club and was a die hard fan of University of Pittsburgh sports. Most of all, Dave loved spending time with his family and friends. EDWARD L. BETZ Age 78, of Cooksburg, passed away after a courageous battle on Monday, July 22, 2019 while under the care of Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born March 7, 1941 in Bethel Park, he was the son of the late Andrew F. Betz and Ruth Kalchthaler Betz. Ed served proudly in the Air National Guard. He was owner and operator of Landmark Sign Company in Pittsburgh and Erie for 35 years. Following that, he and Tracy moved to Cook Forest, where they built their home and owned operated the Deer Meadow Campground for the past 20 years. Ed was a naturally creative and gifted builder with unimaginable vision. He enjoyed traveling, camping, but most of all, he treasured his time at the lake house. He loved playing ball with his dog, Zoey. He will be remembered for working hard and for his love for his family. Ed will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Tracy Betz, whom he married on February 14, 1992; his children, Stacey Ann Holzer and her husband, Richard, of Townville, Scott Edward Betz and his wife, Debby, of Bethel Park, and Andrew Edward Betz of Cooksburg; and his grandchildren, Alyssa Betz, and Hunter and Hayden Holzer. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Jamison Betz, who passed away on September 19, 1990. A public memorial service will be held for Ed at the Deer Meadow Campground pavilion on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family is requesting donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. RUTH F. ANDERSON Age 96, of Penn Hills, PA, peacefully passed away on July 20, 2019. Mrs. Anderson is the daughter of Ruth D. (Nevergold) and Sidney H. Hedges of Pittsburgh, PA. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, William E. Anderson, of Penn Hills, PA, and her daughter, Deborah Jane Anderson Carroll (Michael Carroll), of Taos, NM. She is survived by her daughters, Carol R. Anderson (Polly Keener) of Hadley, MA, and Kathy L. Anderson, of Oakmont, PA; grandchildren, Violeta Ruth Garcia-Mendoza Killmeyer (Todd Killmeyer) of Oakmont, PA, and Gunner William Anderson Keener of Hadley, MA; great-grandchildren, Maya, Joaquin, and Majandra Killmeyer Garcia-Mendoza of Oakmont, PA. She was also blessed with many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Ruth graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1940, where she was a cheerleader. She then attended a technical school where she studied Comptometer and, with that skill, went to work at J & L Steel in Pittsburgh during World War II. Ruth and Bill married in 1945, after Bill's service in the Navy in the South Pacific. They settled in Penn Hills, where she lovingly raised their daughters. Ruth enjoyed social events with Bill as a member of Alcoma Golf Club; they also enjoyed musical theater in Pittsburgh and New York City. Ruth was a lifelong member of Unity United Presbyterian Church, where over the years, she served as Deacon, Trustee, Elder, Sunday School teacher, and Chairwoman of the Ruth Circle. She also volunteered at Woodwell for decades and, more recently, served on the Presbyterian Senior Care Foundation Board. In her later years, she was aided by loving and dedicated women which allowed her to remain in her home: Wynter Lyle, Carolyn Dukes, Brittany Wright, Chassity Chronick, Linda Nulph, Linda Anderchak, and Debbie Waugaman. Ruth's spirit will live on through the kindness she showed everyone around her. JoAnn was a member of Greater Works Outreach Church in Monroeville and was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse at Kane Community Living Center in Glen Hazel. Loving wife of 51 years to Charles (Tim) McKelvey; dear mother of Timothy (Sally) McKelvey of Elizabeth Township, Brian (Lisa) McKelvey of East McKeesport, and Laura (Paul) Walker of Crofton, Maryland; beloved grandmother of Thomas Maringo, Christina McKelvey, Joshua McKelvey, Madisyn McKelvey, Arianna McKelvey, Anna Walker and Grace Walker. She is survived by her brother, Carmine (Mary Louise) Marcelli and was preceded in death by her brother, Peter (Jane) Marcelli. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. JoAnn enjoyed spending time with her family, volunteering at her church, traveling with her husband, and playing with her cat, Molly. JoAnn loved to laugh and her smile was contagious. JOAN UNICO Formerly of Dormont, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Artis Senior Living of South Hills in Bethel Park on Wednesday July 24 at the age of 88. She was a fun-loving, yet hard-working inspiration to all, a fantastic mother and a devoted wife. For 47 years, she was the “face” of Paper Packaging Co., a family-owned manufacturing plant which produced boxes for the pizza and bakery industries. She worked tirelessly, not only in the office but also in the plant. Joan Pigoni married Dan Unico on September 13, 1952 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Beechview. The couple not only worked side-by-side for many years, they also attended almost every men's and women's basketball game at Duquesne over the past four decades. She was an avid book club member and also partook in several card clubs. Unfortunately, she enjoyed the social aspect of playing cards more than winning, much to the frustration of her more competitive partners. Her friends and family all witnessed her generosity. Joan and Dan have four children, Ken Unico (Sheila) of Mount Lebanon, Mark Unico (late Donna) of Upper St. Clair, Renee Eaton (Mark) of Portland, OR, and Lisa Unico (Phil Hahn) of Saybrook, OH. She is the sister of Patricia Smithyman of Lake Placid, FL, Charles Pigoni, Jr of Cleveland, OH and the late Harriet Howarth. They also have 11 grandchildren, Matthew V. Chaban (Nellie), Shannon Slack (Daniel), Dieken Smith, Micah Chaban, Christopher Unico, Rachel Eaton (Alex Sturbaum), Gretchen Unico, Sara Eaton, Bridger Hahn, Nathalie Unico, and the late Cassandra Unico. MARY ANN (RAPP) INCE Passed away July 22, 2019 after losing a courageous battle against an aggressive form of cancer. She was 72. Mary Ann, born to Christian Joseph "Joe" Rapp and Mary Margaret Rapp on May 31, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was the oldest of six siblings. She was a loving mother and wife, an established appellate lawyer, a pianist, a mentor and a good friend to many. Mary Ann received her music degree from Loyola University of New Orleans specializing in piano and graduated from Duquesne University Law School with a Juris Doctorate. She started her law career with the District Attorney's office in Pittsburgh. After a period in private practice she joined the Pennsylvania Superior Court. In 1990 she joined the Maryland Attorney General's office, from which she retired as the Deputy Attorney General of the Maryland Criminal Division in 2018. She was awarded the J. Joseph Curran, Jr. Exceptional Career Service Award. She held license to practice law in the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Texas and at the Federal level the US Supreme Court, Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the MD District Court. She was also a member of the Edward Coke Appellate Inn of Court and Tarrant County Bar Association. Mary Ann is survived by her husband Ilhan Ince; daughter, Aylin Ince; mother, Mary Margaret Rapp; and siblings, Kathleen Smith, Joan Owen, Chris Harvey, Joseph Rapp and Margaret Slade. JUDITH ANN SAWKIW Age 78, of Ruskin, Florida, died peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2019 at Sun City Center Hospice House in Ruskin, FL. Judy was born Dec 18, 1940, in McKeesport, PA to Frank and Charlotte Klimek. She graduated from Clairton High School in PA in 1958 and on Feb 18, 1970, Judy married Nickolas Sawkiw. Together, they traveled the world, living in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Montreal and Japan. Judy is survived by her loving husband, Nickolas; three children, Dale (Cristina) Large, John (Laurie) Large, and Nicole (Brad) Fisher; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Jessica, Danielle, Nickolas, Joshua, and Erik. Judy truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, her family, traveling, crafting, puzzling, crocheting, jewelry making but most of all her grandchildren. LAWRENCE A. AIELLO, JR. Of Turtle Creek, age 74, passed away with his family at his side, on Friday, July 26, 2019. Beloved husband of Frances (Bisaha) Aiello for 53 years; loving father of Anna Marie (Greg) Mumich of Monroeville; cherished grandfather of Natalie (fiance, Nikko Bernard) Mumich; brother of Dave (June) Aiello; brother-in-law of Steve (Diana) Bisaha.; like-a-brother cousin of James Dominic (Sharon) Aiello and like-a-sister cousin of Linda (late Dave) Roberts; nephew of Helen (Ken) Hoerner. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence A. Aiello, Sr. and Mary Maccagnan; his special uncle, Jim (the late June) Maccagnan; special aunt, Angie (the late Frank) McMinn; aunt, Dominique (Sam) Gaspari; and many Aiello aunts and uncles. Also survived by nieces, nephews, many cousins, and his faithful cat, London. Larry was a 1962 graduate of Turtle Creek High School. He worked at Westinghouse Research and Development as a Patent Clerk for 30 years before retiring. Larry was an antique car collector who loved spending time at car shows with his collector friends, and loved listening to oldies music. He was a gold card member of the Italian American Citizens Club in Wilkins Twp. and a former member of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. PATRICK A. KENNY Age 68, of Seaford, DE passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 peacefully at Atria Senior Living. Born on September 11, 1950 in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Richard and Anna Mary Kenny. At an early age in life, Patrick was interested in motorcycles, both selling, repairing and riding. He enjoyed this interest so much that it helped him achieve a job at the Honda House, where he was also a lifelong member of an affiliated motorcycle group, and later with Kawasaki. His friends and family deemed him a “motorcycle aficionado” Following his career in the motorcycle industry, he began his lifelong journey as a case worker for the Department of Human Services for both the state of Pennsylvania and then Maryland, until his retirement. Patrick was an animal enthusiast, he especially loved to sit by the water and watch the ducks and geese. He enjoyed reading and books in general and, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son-in-law, uncle and friend. Patrick is survived by his wife, Deborah Kenny, of Seafor; a daughter, Heather (Michael) Risko; two granddaughters, Abigail Walter and Alyssa Walter; a great-grandson, Cyrus all of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Richard F. (Katie) Kenny of Nevada and Brian (Brenda) Kenny of Nebraska; three sisters, Catherine (George) Lewis of Pennsylvania, Dorothy (Michael) Gilbert of South Carolina, and Sue (Kevin) McCauley of Texas; his mother-in-law, June Eanes of Michigan; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Charles) Darnell of Michigan; two brothers-in-law, John (Mary Ann) Eanes of Pennsylvania and Chris (Sheila) Eanes of California, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. THOMAS I. AGNEW Age 85, of Irwin, died Thursday, July 25, 2019 at his home. He was born December 1, 1933, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Norman and Mary (Mizer) Agnew. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner of ComTrol, Inc., in Irwin. Tom loved History and was a long time member of the Norwin Historical Society; he was a Board member of the Norwin Library for over 50 years and was an Honorary Lifetime member of the Norwin Rotary. After graduating from Carnegie Tech, in Pittsburgh with a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Tom worked for his father at Femco, in Irwin. He then started his business ComTrol in the basement of his home. Tom was a devoted pap and never missed any of his grandsons' events or games. He loved to play the bagpipes and Tom served as a Lieutenant in the Army. He is the husband of the late Joanne Agnew; father of Jody Schmitt and her husband, Daniel, of Hempfield; grandfather of Ryan and Tanner Schmitt; brother of Jane Eye, of West Virginia, Joanne Barclay, of Alabama, Jeanne Klein, of Chambersburg; and several nieces and nephews. A heartfelt thank you to our caregiver Kelly DiLorenzo, we are forever grateful for her hutzpah. Friends will be received 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the OTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 805 Pennsylvania Avenue, Irwin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday in the Immaculate Conception Church. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH. Private interment will take place in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Huntingdon. JOANNE I. (PEZZE) AGNEW Age 85, of Irwin, died Thursday, July 25, 2019 at her home. She was born May 6, 1934 in Irwin, a daughter of the late John (Giovanni) and Josephine (Domenegato) Pezze. Joanne worked as secretary for Femco, ComTrol and also for Magistrate Martha Medich, in Irwin. Joanne loved to spend time with her grandsons always having an adventure. She enjoyed playing Bridge, early morning breakfasts with Almeda, late night visits to Casino's and Larimer Firehall with Norm and Maryanne. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, in Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dolly Pekarsky and a brother, Norman Pezze. Joanne was the wife of the late Thomas Agnew; mother of Jody Schmitt and her husband, Daniel, of Hempfield; grandmother of Ryan and Tanner Schmitt; sister of John Pezze, of Larimer; and several nieces and nephews. JULIE MIELNICKI "JUL" Age 78, of Upper St. Clair, on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Beloved wife for 56 years of Stephen Mielnicki; dear mother of Stephen E. (Pamala) and Christianna Mielnicki; loving grandmother of Alex, Brandon, and Ryan; sister of Edward (Jenny) TuFexis; aunt of Joanna (Aaron) Robbins and James (Hannah) TyFexis. LAWRENCE A. MACCAGNAN "JIM" Of Turtle Creek, a recent resident of Brookdale Murrysville, age 92, died peacefully with his family present on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Beloved father of Linda Maccagnan Roberts (late David Roberts) of White Oak; dear uncle of Mary (Stephen) Bereznak, Algie (late Howard) Edwards, Anne (Eugene) Prosser and the late Larry (Fran) Aiello who died just hours after Jim. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Domenica (late Sam) Gaspari, Maria (late Lawrence) Aiello and Angelina (late Frank) McMinn. Jim was a WW II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Alamance during the Philippine Liberation. After the War, he become a machinist at the Westinghouse Airbrake Co. in Wilmerding and retired after 45 years of service. As a youth, Jim caddied at the former Penhurst Golf Club in Wilkins Twp. and that spawned his passion for playing the game of golf. Jim also was dedicated to St. Colman Church of Turtle Creek where he served as an usher and volunteer. Friends are welcome on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. LANIGAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, Turtle Creek/Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave. at James St., Turtle Creek 412-823-9350. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Colman Church on Monday at 10 a.m. Jim will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Good Shepherd Cemetery.
