She was born April 6, 1924 to her parents, the late Andras and Elizabeth Margitios Vargo. Mrs. Ball belonged to Our Lady of Victory Church in Harwick and enjoyed crocheting, listening to polka music and especially baking her many recipes which she handed down to her daughter's. Esther had an out going personality and was a social butter?y. She will be sadly missed by all her grandchildren, family and many friends who enjoyed going out to lunch with her, never forgetting to wear her red lipstick. He was very proud of bowling a 300 game. His passions in life next to spending time with family and friends were working in his garden and doing things around the house. Richard was a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were an infant brother, Jerry Lunak; and a brother, Rudolph Lunak, a ?ghter pilot that was killed in World War II. ATHENS BETTY V. On January 26, 2019, Betty, or as some called her, Vasho, grew up part of a vibrant Greek community in Oakland at a time when the Pittsburgh Pirates played baseball down the street. She was a proud graduate of Schenley High School and even into her late years could break into the ?ght song of her Dear Schenley High. Betty was married to Nicholas G. Athens, who died many years before her and whose memory she often invoked. She is also the grandmother of Jim, Christin, Kate, Maisie, and Louise and recently became great-grandmother to Harriet (Hattie); she is also survived by her sister, Demetra (Mitzie) Andrews; as well as her children, Maria, George (Ellen), Tom (Deborah), and Jim (Kip); and niece, Maria. WENKERT ALBERT On Sunday, January 27, 2019; Al Wenkert passed away after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of 69 years to Rita (Pearlstein) Wenkert; beloved father to Harry Wenkert (Barbara Ginsburg) and Terri Sweet (Sy); brother of the late Ruth Golden; and grandfather to Daniel Sweet and Beth Sweet. He was a much loved and admired uncle to several nieces and nephews. Al was a most likable and friendly individual who spent 30 plus years with his Primanti Brothers breakfast club enjoying the company of his friends, Joe, Kenny, Toni and the late Rick. His favorite pastime was watching his beloved Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. CZAK FRANK W. Age 99, died peacefully on January 25, 2019. Frank can best be described as a Renaissance man-- a person with many talents and knowledge. He was an athlete, a poet, a writer, a dancer, a composer, an administrator, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather. Frank was born on December 18, 1919 to Adam and Francis Czak. He shared his home on Polish Hill with his siblings, Helen, Stanley, Esther, Francis, Laura, and Walter. Frank attended Immaculate Heart of Mary elementary school and Schenley high school where he was captain of the football and baseball teams and vice president of his senior class. In April 1941, Frank married Dorothy Walls. Less than two years later, in January of 1943, he volunteered to serve in the army. He was assigned to the signal corps in India. After the war, he and Dorothy settled down in Sharpsburg where he started to work for the post of?ce, and they had their only child, Jane. In the '60s and '70s, Frank and Dorothy moved to O'Hara township, and Frank was consistently promoted until he was the supervisor of the Penn Hill post of?ce, which, at the time, was the largest branch in Pittsburgh. In 1981, Frank retired. He ended up being retired longer than he worked. In retirement, Frank enjoyed gol?ng and dancing. He excelled at ballroom and line dancing. He and Dorothy became seasoned travelers. They visited Hawaii, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Africa, and they traveled extensively throughout the US. Frank focused his creative energies writing poems (he had one published in the Readers Digest), short stories, and musicals. He wrote and directed several musicals presented by the St. Joseph's senior group in O'Hara. Also, Frank loved working on his computer. He word-processed much of his daughter Jane's, PhD dissertation work. He wrote and distributed a family newsletter and designed and printed his own original Christmas cards. Of all the things Frank accomplished and enjoyed in life, nothing brought him more pleasure, joy, and contentment than his marriage to Dorothy. They were married 76 years, and in that time their love and devotion for each other never diminished. Everyone who knew Frank would agree he was a one-of-a-kind guy. He was lucky in love and in life and blessed with a wonderful family, many friends, interesting hobbies and skills, and a long and healthy life. Frank is survived by his daughter, Jane Micale (Frank); his granddaughter, Kirsten Sigurdson (Rick); Frank's great-grandsons, Jason and Ryan. CAPUTO THERESA MARIE (DANIELE) Age 90 of Dormont on Sunday, January 27, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Eugene Caputo; loving mother of Cynthia (Larry) Pasquinelli, Mary (Sam) Chuppetta, Margaret (Tony) Niro, Linda (Tommy McDonnell) Shapiro and Jeannine (Jim) Kern; dear sister of the late Vincent Daniele Jr. and Dee Buccilli; adored Nana of 10 grandchildren; and cherished Te Te Nana of 13 great- grandchildren; aunt of many special nieces and nephews. Theresa was a devout Catholic and said the rosary daily. She was a longtime member of St. Bernard Church and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed making pies for the church fundraiser and at one time owned her own cookie baking business. She was a member of the ISDA Beechview Lodge #4 for over 60 years. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUER'S. Family and friends welcome Wednesday 5-8 p.m., and Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at 2630 West Liberty Ave., Dormont, 412-531-4000. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m., in St. Bernard Church. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of ?owers, Theresa requested to have a Mass said in her name.
