(Merante) Duranti; son of the late R o c c o a n d Anastasia Duranti ; dear father of Rocco and Anthony Duranti; brother of Sophea (Philip) Heidinger, Christopher (Mary) Duranti, Lynn (William) Mamakos, George (Suzanne) Duranti, Maria (Mark) Laipple, Theodora (Sherry) Duranti, Pamela (Michael) Miele; brother-in-law of Angela (Alan) Sleiman, Filomena (Leonard) Lies, Pasquale (Cindy) Merante, Anthony Merante; loving uncle of 46 nieces and nephews and 25 great-nieces and nephews. Frank graduated from Edgewood High School and attended Duquesne University. He was the proud owner of Duranti Restaurant for 35 years. Frank dedicated his life to ?ghting ?res; from the age of 18, he volunteered his services to the communities of Edgewood Borough and Mt. Lebanon Fire Departments. Frank had a deep love of food and cooking. He enjoyed cooking often for his family. He also cooked for the ?re department after their weekly drills. He was well known for his award winning meals. DeVENTURA LOLA M. TAYLOR Lola M. (Taylor) DeVentura, of Clairton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday January 7, 2019. Beloved wife of 52 years to the late Gino DeVentura; mother of Lana (Guy) Perry and Bonnie (Jack) Peterson; grandmother of Jake Peterson (Lauren Adams) and Jess Peterson (Corey Swickline). Lola was preceded in death by her parents, George E. and Ruth M. (Whyel) Taylor and her brother, George Taylor, Jr.. Lola was a member of and a Sunday School Teacher for 44 1/2 years at Mel Hileman Ministry Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Charleroi. She taught Bible Study at Clairton Recreation Center, was a member of Crime Watch and served on the Clairton Personnel Board. Lola served for 50 years with the Girls Scouts and enjoyed baking and decorating wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes and chocolate candy for friends and family. GROOVER MARY LOUISE Passed away on January 5, 2019 at the age of 97. She was the daughter of A.E. Kountz and Laura Marie Friday Kountz and was married to Lt. Colonel Marshall E. Groover who died in active duty in May 1963. Her ?rst marriage was to Captain Les White who died in active duty in November, 1943. She was the mother of Sandra Strickland (Robert) of Syracuse, NY and Alan E. Groover (Marsha) of Pittsburgh, PA. Mary Lou was the sister of the late Katherine Cannon and Constance Willcox. She is the grandmother of Tracey Strickland Pickett and Alan Strickland of Syracuse, NY and Denise Groover of New York, NY. Mary Lou attended Ursuline Academy and graduated from Winchester Thurston of Pittsburgh. She attended Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY and was a long term member of the Pittsburgh Athletic Association (PAA) and the Gold Star Wives of America. She was a proli?c reader of mystery books and enjoyed watching the black and white movies shown on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Mary Lou was a long term resident of the city of Pittsburgh living in Pt. Breeze and Oakland and more recently at the Arbors of St. Barnabas in Valencia, PA. The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks for the wonderful care provided to Mary Lou by the nurses and aides of the Arbors of St. Barnabas and as well as the nurses and aides of St. Barnabas Hospice. MAZZOLENI IDA (SUMMARIA) Of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, member of St. Thomas More Church congregation, died in the morning of January 6, 2019 at the age of 87. She spent her last days peacefully surrounded by her family and love. Ida was born on March 11, 1931 in Donici, the Calabria region of Italy. She immigrated to the United States in January of 1957 and settled into Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Ermond. Ida was a longtime resident of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania and member of the St. Bernard Church congregation. She and her family owned and ran the restaurant Frenchy's in downtown Pittsburgh until it closed in 2003. Ida was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, daughter, and sister, a caring friend, a devout member of the Catholic faith, and a wonderful cook who loved to spend time with her family while enjoying her homemade Italian meals. Ida is survived by daughters Rose (Christopher) Lepore, Michele (Joe) Hieronimus, and Sherry (Thomas) Despres; grandchildren Stefanie (Ralph) Burt, Kevin (Ellen) Trant, Christina (Michael) Hinton, Katherine Trant, Ryan Despres, Madeleine Lepore, and Gabriel Despres; great-granddaughter Lia Burt; brother-in-law John Mazzoleni; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ermond Mazzoleni, her brothers Giuseppe and Gabriele Summaria; and her brother-in-law Raymond Mazzoleni. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS . MCVEIGH TIMOTHY P. Of Penn Hills, age 43, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 after a long-fought battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by Angie Diano. He is survived by his daughter Brianna McVeigh, parents Jim and Lynn (Motzko) McVeigh, brother James J. (JoAnn) McVeigh, nephews Adam and Brock McVeigh, his aunt Sharon Motzko (Garvis) Martin, his uncles Jeff (Srinivas) McVeigh, Jack (Elaine) McVeigh and his cousins. Tim's extended family includes Angie's parents John (Debbie) Diano, Kate (Frank) Tedesco, Mike (Michele), Frank and Jen Diano. Tim loved all the Pittsburgh sports teams especially the Steelers and had a love a music. But of all the things in his life, his greatest joy was raising his daughter Brianna. He enjoyed sharing stories of his nephews Adam and Brock and all the Diano children Angeline, Pia, Anthony, Bailey, Brandon, Frankie, Addie, Sara, Logan and Alyssa. Knowing his daughter's friend Brian Lucas is there for her with comfort and moral support put his mind at ease. Over years of the many different diagnoses and hospital stays he loved to use social media. He was able to stay connected with all of his friends who kept him going with all of their love and words of encouragement that helped him keep up the ?ght. Cancer does not discriminate when it comes into your life. It does not care that it causes you pain, hurts the people that you love, takes away your hopes and dreams. Cancer met its match in Tim. He was a courageous warrior, he accepted the multiple diagnoses that came year after year and through love, sheer stubbornness and determination kept going. In the end it is cancer that lost the battle with Tim, because with God on his side, he is back in the arms of his one true love. Together they will be looking over from above on their daughter knowing their families are there to help raise and guide her. Friends are welcome on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at PATRICK T. THOMAS DOROTHY RUTH Age 78, formerly of Atlantic and a resident of Rolling Fields, Conneautville, passed away there Saturday, January 5, 2019. She was born October 8, 1940 in Gibsonia, a daughter of Marcellus and Blanche Bick Schwartz. She married Richard F. Thomas November 4, 1961 and he preceded her in death August 11, 2011. Dorothy was a 1959 graduate of West Deer High School, Gibsonia. She was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving stateside from 1959 to 1961. A homemaker, Dorothy was a member of Compassion Church, Conneaut Lake, Women's Aglow and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include seven children, Charlene Thomas of Atlantic, Laurie Taylor (Phillip) of Jefferson, OH, Mark Thomas (April) of Carlton, MI, Jennifer Harmon of Meadville, Veronica Burncheck (Jeff) of Carlton, Melissa Vrobel (Joe) of Burton, OH, and Christian Thomas (Tiara) of Adamsville; a brother, Jim Schwartz of Meadville; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Pete Wichryk; ?ve sisters-in-law, Nancy Thomas, Nancy Geyer, Beverly Thomas, Emily Love, and Sylvia Maxwell; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Wichryk. RIPPIN LOIS IRENE (STUTZMAN) Entered into the Light of God on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Lois was born September 20, 1940 to Jack and Irene Stutzman of Johnstown, PA where she grew up. In December 1960, she married Rev. Dr. Kenneth Rippin. She worked as a legal secretary in Johnsonburg, PA, and more recently for Klett, Rooney, Lieber and Shorling in Pittsburgh, PA. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Robert Morris College in her 50s, ful?lling the promise to herself to complete her college degree. Lois was a gifted artist and enjoyed painting with her art group and sharing her paintings with family and friends. She was an active member of the Ingomar United Methodist Church, where she led a small group, taught Sunday School, and volunteered on several committees. She enjoyed reading, spending time visiting the family farm, and traveling.   Lois is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ken; her sister, Kay Sellers of Atlanta, GA; and three daughters, Shari and Bryan Tarleton of Brunswick, Maine; Susan Rippin and Mark Winter of Wilmington, Delaware; and Amy Rice, also of Brunswick, Maine; she was a proud grandmother of seven and a great-grandmother of ?ve. June was born on July 1, 1934 to her parents, the late James and Elizabeth Reay Thompson, and has been a lifelong resident of the community. June belonged to St. Alphonsus Church and enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. Most of all, she was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, and will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Chick was an active owner for the past 31 years of the Meineke Car Care Center in Harmar. He was a lifetime resident of Blawnox and served on the Auxiliary Police Force for over 60 years. Chick was an Army veteran and served in the Korean War. Chick was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Ann (Beam). Born July 28, 1944 in Wilkinsburg, Preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. and Thelma (Skees) Hitson; and his sister, Dorothy Kroen (surviving husband, Ed). He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Madden; his children, Robert S. Hitson (Danielle), Lisa M. Denig (Jim Carpiniello), and James T. Hitson (Janel); former wife and mother of his children, Vicki Martire; former wife, Barbara J. Hitson; grandchildren, Vicki Denig, Stephanie Denig, Bobby Hitson, Nicklaus Hitson, Taylor Hitson, and Cade Hitson. Bob was a city school teacher at Reizenstein Middle School after a Bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University and Master's Degree from Pitt. He loved golf, ping pong, tennis, and any other competitive activity. He loved and spent his life working and volunteering at Longue Vue Club.
