PRUS FRANCES V. PEACEFULLY, ...
PRUS FRANCES V. Peacefully, on Friday, November 30, 2018. Devoted daughter of the late Louis and Eva Prus; cherished sister of the late Joseph (Mary), Edward, Stephanie (Walter) Balawejder, Irene (Merle) Addams, and Eugenia Fratangelo her best friend; also survived by three generations of nieces and nephews. Fran was a hairstylist for over 50 years in the former Jenkins Arcade and counted many of Pittsburgh's most notable women as faithful clients. She enjoyed traveling, with trips to Hawaii and Portugal among her favorites. Frannie loved the game of golf, was a terri?c dancer, she just loved a good time, but her true passion and addiction was for Milk Chocolate. She was a longtime member of the University Club and was an active member of the Polish Women's Alliance, serving for many years as an of?cer of her local group. Frances was a woman of devout faith without wearing it on her sleeve, and could often be found praying the rosary. Throughout her life, she was sel?ess and generous to a fault, caring for her parents and family members, often sacri?cing her own needs. Because she had no children of her own, Aunt Fran adored her nieces and nephews, and left each of them feeling as if she were their second mother. That maternal love was expressed and shared earlier this year with the large gathering for her 100' birthday celebration. Frances was the last of her generation and the end of an era, which left a legacy of Polish roots and American Heritage. We will always cherish their individual talents and qualities. We were all blessed to have her in our lives. Friends will be received at Saint Bernard Church, Mt. Lebanon, Friday morning from 9:00 until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Memorials St. Anthony's School Programs, 2000 Corporate Drive #580, Wexford, PA 15090; or St. Bernard Church, 311 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15216. JACK NELL GIBSON OF INDIANA,...
JACK NELL GIBSON Of Indiana, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at her home. A daughter of Clarice Bond and William Gibson, she was born on April 22, 1927, in Donie, Texas. A banker in Burkburnett, Texas, Nell agreed to a blind date with a young drilling contractor from Pennsylvania who was in Wichita Falls to purchase a drilling rig. Within a short period of time, he not only added rigs to his ?eet but also won the love of his life, Nell, as his wife. An avid athlete, Nell competed in high school sports. Her greatest athletic victories came later on the golf course. She won the club championship 10 times at Indiana Country Club and also won the championships at Oakmont Country Club ad Desert Forest Golf Club (Carefree, AZ). She was a great and vocal partner of her husband, Samuel W. Jack, Jr. Together they grew a small natural gas drilling company into an industry leader and created what was once the largest natural gas production company east of the Mississippi River. She was extremely proud to see her daughter, Christine Toretti, take over management of the family enterprise upon the death of her husband. A strong woman with de?nite opinions, she became a ?erce advocate for the advancement of women, speci?cally in the athletic arena. As a result, she supported women's athletics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania through the Nell Jack Classic. She was awarded the President's Medal of Distinction from IUP in 2015. IUP President Michael Driscoll said, Mrs. Jack has been actively engaged and has supported the university and the community her entire public life. It was my honor on behalf of the university to present her with the President's Medal of Distinction for dedication and support in 2015, a well-deserved recognition of all she has done for the university. She has my admiration and respect, and I feel fortunate to have gotten to know her during my time at IUP. She will be missed. The most important aspect of her life was her family. Nothing brought her more joy than taking trips with her sister, Maxine, and spending time with her daughter and three grandsons. Nell is survived by her daughter, Christine Jack Toretti, of Indiana; and her three grandsons, Joseph and Maxwell, of Los Angeles, and Matthew, of Indiana; and one great-grandson.
