Nicholas was retired from US Steel Duquesne Works, where he worked as a certified welder. He was a US Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church. Louise was a former member of the East McKeesport Moose Seniors, East Pittsburgh and Forest Hills AARP and Valley Seniors. Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Oxenreiter; daughter of the late John and Alice Ropar; sister of John (Shirley) Ropar, Florence (Robert) Steinbeck, the late Marcella VanPraag, Alice, Charles, Lillian and Dennis; cousin of Carol A. Ganser; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other friends and extended family. Dorothy was a natural caregiver and raised her younger siblings after the death of her mother. She met her beloved Joe, who lovingly courted her for twenty two years. They married in 1973 and settled down in Mount Lebanon. She had a natural love of animals especially her Maltese, Courtney. Dorothy was a proud Pittsburgh sports fan and often watched the Steelers and Pirates play; she also had an avid interest in golfing. Dorothy enjoyed being outside in the warm months. She spent much of her time in the garden tending to flowers. Dorothy had a smile that lit up a room and a heart with enough love to make sure everyone that knew her felt loved and appreciated. Dorothy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and will be greatly missed. She had been a cafeteria manager with the Upper St. Clair School District and enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and baking with her grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, shopping, and most importantly, finding a good bargain. On March 3, 1973 she married Gary Crossan, who survives. Margaret's family includes her son, Jeffrey A. She grew up in Farrell, PA and was Salutatorian of the 1942 class of Farrell High School. She earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Seton Hill College and a Masters Degree in Public School Music Education from Duquesne University. She is a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota, the National Music Fraternity. She taught music and theater in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for eight years from 1947-1955. She taught in Lawrenceville (Woolslair), Allentown, and Carrick (Concord). She is a longtime parishioner of St. Sebastian Church. She sang in the choir, taught CCD classes, and was a member of the prayer group. She is survived by a son, Lawrence (Linda) Rybar, of Hampstead, MD, son, Thomas Rybar, of Shaler Twp.; daughter, Nancy (Tom) Callan, of Franklin Park; grandson, Michael (Alex) Rybar; and greatgranddaughter, Liliana, of Philadelphia. GOETTLER JAY BLAIR Age 87, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, peacefully in his sleep. Jay was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on April 10, 1931. He graduated from Butler High School and continued on to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe for a year. Jay was married to Virginia Ann Goettler (Glace) on February 13, 1954; they were married 64 years. Jay worked at his father's beer distributor, E.C. Goettler Distributing, before joining the military and serving 4 years with the Seabees (Navy) stationed in Trinidad and Newfoundland. After returning from the service, Jay went back to work at his family's business that was established by his grandfather, Fred H. Goettler, in 1933. He purchased the business from his parents (Eugene and Margaret) in 1972, and in 1976 he became President and CEO of Goettler Distributing, Inc. He loved the beer business and was a role model for all his employees over the decades. Thanks to his guidance, Goettler Distributing, Inc. has continued on as a successful local business for 85 years. Jay had yet another passion in life
HE WAS A SINGER. During all his time raising a family and growing a business, Jay was very involved with musical theater. Taking some time off, he was in the famous summer stock theater company, The Kenley Players, 1967 production of "Sweet Charity," starring Janice Paige...he was bitten by the musical theater bug. The years that followed were filled with his starring roles in musicals. In 1970 he won "Best New Male Performance" with the Youngstown Players. From there, the majority of Jay's leading roles were with the Musical Theatre Guild of Butler. His incredible voice was not only for the theater; Jay has sung for most churches in the area, either as cantor or wedding soloist. Jay even sang "The Star Spangled Banner" for the opening of a Pittsburgh Pirate's baseball game. His voice will live on in numerous audio and video recordings, and also in his album "At Last," which he recorded in 2004. Jay is survived by his wife, Virginia Ann Goettler; his five children, Daniel Goettler and his wife, Tracy; Kevin Goettler and his wife, Ann; Larry Goettler, Karen Young, and Timothy Goettler and his husband, Scott Gabriel; his 12 grandchildren, Katie, Brittany, Patrick, Megan, Holly, Matthew, Emily, Grant, Cullen, Spencer, Rachel and Andrew; his six great-grandchildren, Carter, Madilyn, Eliana, Evangeline, Daniel and Camden; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his relatives and friends; Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene C. He was born July 24, 1926 in Ransom, Kansas to the late Hugh Belford Carroll and the late Ruth Naomi Stewart Carroll. Norman is a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy on the USS Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier as Main Engine Officer. He attended Kansas University, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Business and in Engineering. Norman then worked for Westinghouse in Cheswick as a Mechanical Engineer and was also owner/operator of Applied Test Systems for many years before retiring. He is survived by one son, Robert G. Carroll and his wife, Anita of Mars, PA; two grandchildren, Alayna Carroll, and Riley Carroll; one brother, Keith Carroll and his wife, Mary of Burlington, NC; two nieces, Alison Smith, and Angela Hunnicut; and one nephew, Keith William Carroll. GORMAN MARY ALICE Of Shadyside, on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, age 74. Beloved wife of Richard A. Goldman; mother of Alison K. Babusci; daughter of the late James Gorman and Alice Berlinger; sister of Michele Boyd; also survived by Josh Goldman, Seth Goldman, Ian and Sara Boyd, Amy, Jody, Kylie, Jake and Sophie Goldman. Her career spanned teaching to civic leadership, from book selling to the most active retirement as a Life Trustee of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and a champion for many causes large and small. She loved her best friends Richard and Alison with all her heart, but touched countless lives with her love and light and kindness. TANKOSIC HELEN (BERCHOK) Helen Tankosic, age 87 of Jefferson Hills passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. She was born and grew up in the Clairton, Helen Marie Berchok, one of four children of Michael Andrew Berchok and Helen (Gomolak) Berchok. Helen was a 1948 graduate of Clairton High School and became a Bank Teller working for Equibank and PNC at the Clairton, Century III and Elizabeth branches. She was the Treasurer for the Clairton Meals on Wheels and active with the Wilson and Clairton AARP Groups. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Tankosic in August of 1998 and a sister, Magdalene Berchok in September of 2010. Helen is survived by three children, George (Lynn) Tankosic, Jr. of Mesa, AZ, Timothy (Flavia) Tankosic of Los Angeles and Cathy (Gus Stuart) Tankosic of New York City; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Angela Tankosic; a sister, Joan Berchok and brother, Michael (Barbara) Berchok, both of Jefferson Hills; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Friday, October 12th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the STEPHEN D. Rose was a Coraopolis school crossing guard for 52 years, a Democratic committee woman for over 50 years, a constable for 40 years and a member of the Christian Mother's St. Joseph Church.
