KENT MICHAEL P. Age 74, of Ligonier, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at his home. He was born July 25, 1944 in Decatur, Indiana, a son of the late Hugh J. and Helen E. (Holthouse) Kent. He began his career at Westinghouse and went on to become an expert on sports gambling, a philanthropist and an environmentalist. He loved being outdoors in nature and enjoyed collecting model trains and A.C. Gilbert erector sets. He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle (Rectenwald) Kent of Ligonier; two brothers, John Charles Kent of New Mexico and William Joseph Kent and his wife, Debra Hammack of New Mexico; and his beloved dogs and cats. WOESTER IDA BELLE (SHANER) Was born on January 16, 1931 to the late Earl and Marcella Shaner. She flew with the angels on September 20, 2018 at Shadyside Hospital. Also waiting to welcome her home are husband, George Woester; sons, George, Scott and Jimmy; grandchildren, Abigail Derrick, Little Eddie Woester; twins, Lily and Leslie Woester; siblings, Laverne Otten and Butch Shaner; along with many friends and relatives. On September 16, 2018 at the Meadows Casino she hit for $325 on her first quarter! Mom was very happy and light spirited, she touched everyone she met, bringing smiles and laughter. A few of us were blessed as we got to say "I love you" as she smilingly swished us out of her hospital room. We love you Mom. Until we meet again. KNOBLOCH CHRISTINE WATZELT Age 83, of Wexford, passed away September 21, 2018 at Wexford Healthcare under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice. She was born April 7, 1935 in Skalken, Czech Republic. It was then part of the Sudetenland, Germany. She was the oldest child of Adele Maschek (d. 1988) and Herbert Watzelt (d. 1976). Christine apprenticed as a dressmaker in Germany at age 14. She met and married Harry Knobloch (d. 2015) in Wittenberg, Germany in April 1953 and settled for a time in Haan, Germany, where their only child, Monika, was born in 1955. They immigrated to the United States in 1957 and spent 50 years in the Chicago area, where Christine worked at Garden City Envelope Co. and the First National Bank of Mt. Prospect, Illinois. She loved traveling back to Germany to see family and vacationing in Hawaii. In 2007, Harry and Christine moved to the Pittsburgh area to be closer to family. Surviving family includes daughter and son-in-law, Monika and Fred Homa; two granddaughters, Emilie (William) Winkeler and Linnea Homa; Christine also leaves behind two brothers, Adolf (Adele) Watzelt and Herbert (Marianne) Watzelt in Germany; as well as nieces and nephew, Marion, Birgit, Holger, Nina, and Christina. She is survived by her brother, Irvin and his wife, Hazel (Gehman) Berkey of Windber; sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Kathryn Berkey; numerous nieces and nephews; and special helpful and compassionate nephew, Tim Berkey of Pittsburgh; also survived by many great and great great-nieces and nephews. Leila was a member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, where she had been an active member for many years before moving to Asbury Heights. She graduated from Windber High School and shortly after went to work for National Radiator Co., in Johnstown, PA. She later moved to Pittsburgh and worked for many years as an Executive Secretary for Rockwell International. She loved playing golf and bridge. Lee was a season ticket holder for the Steelers for many years. Her family would like to thank all the staff at the Willows Community for the tender loving care they gave "Lee". The family also thanks Tim for dedicated compassionate care he gave his aunt Leila these past few years. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or visitation. He worked as a registered pharmacist in the Pittsburgh area and then for Diamond Pharmaceutical in Indiana, PA. Greg was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend, who loved gardening and the great outdoors, living in Wyoming for some years and exploring the West through camping trips to Montana, Idaho, and other states. He enjoyed carpentry and created beautiful pieces for family members' gardens and homes and for a shop he owned in the South Side for several years. SCHOTT THOMAS ANTHONY After several years struggling with Dementia, Thomas Anthony Schott passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Charles Morris Nursing & Rehabilitation Center with Patti by his side. He was born in Sunbury, PA, on May 30, 1930, and his wife, Barbara Halpert, predeceased him in 1996. He is survived by his sisters, Nancy Jones of Phoenix, AZ, and Mary Alyce Walker of San Francisco, CA; and six nieces and nephews. After graduating from Altoona High School in 1948, he was accepted at the Pennsylvania State University, and in the spring left to pursue his dream and signed with the Phillies in 1949 as a pitcher in the Minor Leagues. After he was injured he returned to PSU and received a B.S. in Architectural Engineering in 1954. While at PSU, he was president of the Pennsylvania State University Interfraternity Council, a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and a member of the Lion's Paw Senior Society. He joined the Corp of Engineers, U.S. Army, where he was a Construction Unit Commander from 1954-1956. During his tenure (1956-1962) at Dravo Corporation, Tom was employed as a Project Development Engineer for iron and steel production and environmental projects. While at Dravo, he received a B.S. in Industrial Management from Carnegie Institute of Technology. In 1962 his entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Holly, Kenney, Schott (HKS), a Pittsburgh headquartered engineering and construction firm that employed over 300 people to support the iron and steel, minerals, infrastructure, and coal industries. While president and CEO, he opened HKS branch offices in DC, WV, and Paris, and set aside time to earn an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Tom later founded Schott Inc., a R&D firm for the energy sector, and International Energy & Environment Development Corporation to develop and implement humanitarian programs for environmental-related matters. He sailed the islands frequently, was a dedicated Nittany Lions, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a member of the (former) University Club, the Duquesne Club, and Longue Vue Club where he was an avid golfer and served as president of membership for several years.
