HARPER ALAN JOHN Of Pymatuning Lake, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, following an extended illness, at the Meadeville Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 18, 1954 in Pittsburgh, son of the late Edwin Alfred and Georgia Ann Spohrer Harper. He is survived by his ten siblings in chronological order, Sally, Joni, Georgia, Eddie, Dale, Mary and Joey (twins), Therese, Stephanie, and Carolyn; plus 30 combined nieces and nephews; 20 grand, with two on the way. One large happy family who will be missing the Middle Child. The first of 11 to be sent home to be with Our Lord and Mom and Dad. Now you are the Leader of the Pack. Watch over us and enjoy your freedom. God Bless, sweet Brother of ours, you will be sorely missed. Alan is the beloved father of Jessica, Alan John, Jr., and Sarah, all of Pittsburgh, PA, a grandson born nearly a year ago, Micah. He was a 1973 graduate of South Hills High School. Alan played halfback on the high school football team receiving his Athletic Letter. He enlisted in the Navy Reserves serving in 1974-75. Alan worked as a carpenter for the Allegheny County helping build public housing in the City of Pittsburgh, PA, following an accident where he fell and damaged his spine, and then eventually being diagnosed M.S. Just turning 59, Alan John was freed to climb the highest mountains, swim the distance of any body of water, and fly faster than a speeding bullet, swinging from vine to vine to get to where he needed to be. You fought with the Spirit of Tarzan, Hercules and Superman combined. You are a true hero in the human sense. God Bless you. Your wish has been granted. We all love you and will miss seeing your beautiful brown eyes and the smile that brightened up the whole room and always made us feel blessed. You never complained about all the pain you were in. You suffered in silence. Friends and family received Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 at the ORION C. PINKERTON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1014 California Ave., Avalon (412)-766-5600 Wednesday. A Blessing Service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. for family only. Go in Peace our dear brother and father, uncle. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
