ETTENSON NORMAN J. AGE 87, PAS...

ETTENSON NORMAN J. Age 87, passed away on October 17, 2014, at Lifecare Hospital of Pittsburgh, North Campus, in Bellevue, PA. Norman was born in Chicago, IL on December 24, 1926, to Herman Cecil Ettenson and Dorothy Halper, both of whom preceded him in death. Norman had one older sister, Muriel Fern Ettenson, who spent her life in the Chicago area and who passed on February 9, 2012. Norman married Mary Jayne Penta on February 9, 1956. Mary Jayne preceded Norman in death on October 4, 1971. Norman and Mary Jayne had one son, Neal Ettenson, born on December 26, 1956. Neal passed on October 29, 2004. Norman was the last surviving member of the Ettenson family. During World War II, Norman served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 as a Shipfitter, Third Class. Around 1967, Norman and Mary Jayne left Chicago for Pittsburgh where they built a home designed by Mary Jayne in Bethel Park. Norman worked as an engineer throughout his lifetime winning numerous awards for his service from the United States Department of Energy and United States Army Corps of Engineers, where he served as a chief engineer. Additionally, Norman was also employed by Westinghouse Astronuclear Lab working on high altitude test chamber rocket motor standards, at Miller Research Laboratory as a Senior Engineer for torpedo control, evaluation and development, at Cook Electric Company as a Senior Engineer in research and development of nuclear bomb testing, at American Machine as a Senior Engineer in research and development of aircraft fire control testing, at Glenn L. Martin as a Senior Engineer working on airframe missile and aircraft management and at American Bridge Company in structural fabrication, bridge and buildings detailer drafting. Norman maintained a continuing relationship with his wife's niece, Donna Penta, and her son, Michael Penta, of Massachusetts. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. at PAUL L. HENNEY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, INC., 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park. Funeral Services will be conducted by Rabbi Mark Mahler on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Park.
