JONES CHARLES M. “JONES-E” Entered the Kingdom of the Lord on July 23, 2013. He lived an incredible and fulfilling life for 96 wonderful years. He was born in McKees Rocks Pennsylvania on November 29, 1916. After graduating high school, he spent one year at Pittsburgh University before being called to duty in World War II. He served from 1940 through 1945. During that time, he was decorated with three medals from World War II, consisting of the American Defense Service Medal/the Good Conduct Medal along with the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. After the War and some time working for the government, he started a 40 year career on the railroad. He worked from Pennsylvania to Florida. He finally retired in 1981 to reside in McKees Rocks, PA. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a 78 year member of the Elks Lodge. He was also a good member in standing with the Lodge Council, Chapter Consistory with the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh. He was a devoted Steeler and University of Pittsburgh Fan. He was also very fond of racing Pigeons for years in the McKees Rocks area. Charles touched and influenced countless lives during his many years he was with us. For those of us that were fortunate to to have come into contact with him, will always remember his favorite sayings of “Act Sharp, Look Sharp and Be Sharp” and “it only takes a little to out work the other guy”. Jonse-E had an incredible area of friends that he enjoyed seeing in McKee's Rocks at the Eat N Park and Rudy's. Guss you will be missed, along with all of his close friend at the Veterans of Foreign Post 418 and the American Legion. Special Thanks to all of his neighbors, June Elizabeth, Bill and Cindy Dawkins, Judy Engle, Kim and Sarah, Tracy and Ronald Pederson, and John and Karen Trimmer for watching over him during these trying times these last few months. He will be greatly missed in Florida during the Holidays as he always brightened everybody's lives down south during the winter months. Jonse-E also leaves behind his loving extended family of David, Denise, Tyler, Austin and Logan Bennett who were blessed beyond belief to have this wonderful man in their lives every year. He also leaves behind Dan, Cheryl and Daniel Bennett in Seattle, Washington who treasured him lovingly. Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Pearl Jones; a sister, Bernadette Schreck; brother, Clarence Jones; and special friends, Matrha Lou Bennett and Mickey McCune. Charles traveled extensively all around the world, enjoying Germany the most. He enjoyed taking cruise's going to Atlantic City or just sitting back enjoying the sunset with a fine Manhattan. Charles had a special place in his heart for little ones. He always had a two dollar bill at the ready for a little one who he would give to start their college fund. Many times he had never even met them just thought how cute they were and wanted to do something nice. He was so genuine in his love for children. For all of us that knew him at that age we were truly blessed. I am sure right now he is probably handing out two dollar bills up in heaven to a little Angel. Family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. TUESDAY at McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1225 Chartiers Avenue, McKees Rocks, where services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors. Send condolences at post-gazette.com/gb
