EILEEN SMITH DORMAN Age 87, of Upper St. Clair went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 11, 2020, in her home surrounded by her husband George and family members, following a brave year-long battle with breast cancer. Eileen was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Mary E. (Cooney) Smith. She was preceded in death by her sister, M. Catherine Shanahan; brother, J. Bernard Smith; and infant daughter, Diane E. Dorman. She is survived by her loving husband of over 65 years, George C. Dorman; sons, Michael G. (Catherine) Dorman, Keith G. (Jane, deceased) Dorman, John G. (Rosa) Dorman; daughters, Lynn M. (Jose) Gonzalez and Marybeth D. (Thomas) Jacobson; and 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Eileen attended St. Justin Elementary and High Schools in Mt. Washington. She then earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education at Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) while working nearly full time for the College and at local Pittsburgh businesses. Highly regarded by her peers and the College, Eileen was elected President of her class during her Junior Year and Treasurer of the Faculty and Student Association in her Senior Year, when she also was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Eileen taught at St. Bernard Elementary School as a substitute teacher for a year before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. Eileen devoted herself to her family, her faith and her community. She was a volunteer at St. Clair Hospital for over 15 years. Eileen was also a lifelong learner and attended classes and programs for many years on such subjects as foreign language, finance, computer usage and dance. Along with her husband George, she engaged in significant philanthropic efforts with such organizations as St. Vincent Seminary and Archabbey in Latrobe; St. Thomas More Church; St. Vincent DePaul Society; Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation; Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, and the Little Sisters of the Poor. She was graced with a beautiful voice and sang for many years with choral and performing groups in Pittsburgh including the Mount Mercy Choir, Tom Fallon Singers, Harmony Singers and Tapestry Singers. But her greatest joy was her family. Eileen and her family traveled to historic sites such as Washington, D.C.; Mt. Vernon; Lexington and Concord, and Gettysburg (a location to which the family later moved and called home for seven years). A special place for Eileen was a Bungalow on Eastern Long Island which the family visited for a vacation for 45 years. In 2001 Eileen and George acquired their own Bay House on Eastern Long Island where they spent summers for 16 years. Eileen also greatly enjoyed celebrating birthdays and anniversaries of her extended family, most recently in October of 2019 when four generations gathered. A treasured family tradition was receiving a birthday call from Eileen and George and being serenaded with a chorus of Happy Birthday. Eileen will be remembered for her kindness, intelligence, good judgment, sense of humor, absolute love for her family, commitment to her many friends, and her devout, all important faith. She was a blessing and gift to family and friends and will be greatly missed. Friends will be welcomed at LAUGHLIN CREMATION & FUNERAL TRIBUTES, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon, Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas More Church, 126 Fort Couch Road, Upper St. Clair, Friday morning at 10 o'clock and Live Streamed at Eileen's obituary on Laughlin's website.
