POLJAK MATTHEW JOHN "MUTZY" Age 90, of Brookline, on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He was born June 21, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Anna and Anthony Poljak. Matt was raised on the South Side along with two brothers and three sisters by Anna and Anthony, and after Anthony's passing, by his stepfather, Charles Stosic. He is survived by a brother, Nicholas (Lil) Poljak; a sister-in-law, Irene (the late John); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and many friends. Matt was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Henrietta (Podgorski); three sisters, Barbara Simons, Catherine Mance, Mary Stosic Zanetta; and a brother, John Poljak. Matt was a proud Marine serving from 1941-1950, through WWII, then active in the 4th Marine Corps Reserve District, through 1952 during the Korean War. He served as a Recog. Instructor, Rocket Crewman, and Heavy Artillery Specialist in The Asiatic Pacific Theater and participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa. Mutzy had many friends from The South Side, Brookline and most recently, from his home at Paramount Assisted Living in Baldwin. His kind words and generosity will be missed by all.
