DAVID R. GORDON Ph. D A lifelong educator, David R. Gordon, Ph. D., of Moon Township, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2019, after an eight year struggle with leukemia. Dave was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on July 17, 1940, 78 years ago. He earned a Bachelor's degree, Master of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy, all at the University of Pittsburgh. He taught in each of the upper grades in Swissvale Junior-Senior High School (now Woodland Hills). Dave moved on to Assistant Principal in Center Area High School (now Central Valley) and Hopewell High School, where he also served as Assistant Superintendent, Acting Superintendent, and Elementary Principal. Dave was happiest in front of a classroom and continued teaching with Point Park and Robert Morris Colleges after retirement from public education. Dave's many friends know of his passion for cars and his desire to own as many as possible. He solved that situation by collecting die cast metal cars to a total of 103. Dave could name almost any car from the 1920's through the current day. Dave's favorite aspect of the automobile world was learning about ongoing innovation in the automobile industry. He was an avid lover of music, especially when it was played as loudly as possible. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Henry R. and Gertrude Lister Gordon, his sister, Lois Gordon Ehrin and her husband Mel Ehrin, his brother Paul Lister Gordon, and five beloved dogs. He is survived by Carol Kuhn Gordon, his wife of 55 years; his son, Stephen R. Gordon and his wife Gina and two children, Juliana and Thomas; his son Michael R. Gordon and his fiancé, Melisa Kaczmarek; his sisters-in-law Sally L. Gordon and Barbara K. Denti and her partner Ed Myers; along with several nieces and nephews, and Dolly the cat. Dave has been a longstanding member of Sharon Community Presbyterian Church since he and Carol moved to Moon Township. Friends will be received at R. D. COPELAND FUNERAL HOME INC., Brodhead Road, Moon Township on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A Celebration of Dave's life will be held on Thursday 5 p.m. at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, Moon Township, PA (Please meet at church).
