LONGABAUGH EDWARD ESPEY, MD Born October 18, 1924, died peacefully on October 12, 2018. He joins his wife Mary Jane (Emjay) of 64 years who died in 2014. He is survived by children, Richard, Edward (Cynthia), Heidi Cassel (Jim), Peter, Hans (Paula), and Fritz (Nancy); by his brother, Thomas Longabaugh, MD; and his sister-in-law, Margaret Kurth. A 1944 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, and its Medical School in 1947, he also earned a Masters degree in Public Health in 1985 from the University of Pittsburgh. He served in the Navy during and after the Korean War and was Board certified in General Surgery after training in New York City, Detroit, and Rochester, NY. He and Emjay settled in Pittsburgh in 1956, where he entered private surgical practice serving various Pittsburgh area hospitals including Presbyterian University and North Hills Passavant Hospital. During his distinguished medical career, he was elected President of the Allegheny County Medical Society and was a medical missionary to Ethiopia. His medical service also included an appointment as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical school. Along with Emjay, he was a founder of the Fox Chapel Emergency Medical services. He retired in 1986 from surgical practice and moved to Harrisburg with Emjay, where he worked in medical administration. After full retirement he served as a volunteer at Harrisburg Hospice. He was fondly known as "Espey" to his closest friends and by his 16 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. After Emjay's death in 2014 he moved to Sellersville to live with Heidi and Jim. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 700 North Broad Street, Lansdale, PA.
