STIVALA MARY C. 83, of Scranton, went peacefully on Friday afternoon, March 7, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John L. Stivala, Jr. Born July 1, 1930, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Florentino and Mary Garcia Alvarez. Mary worked as a retail bookkeeper for several years until she established her own business, Tri-State Uniforms and Awards which she owned and operated for over 40 years. She was a very talented woman and was a quite capable seamstress and designer. She was fond of crocheting and cross-stitch crafts as well. Above all, Mary loved her family, especially her grandchildren and her many shopping excursions she shared with them. Christmas was a very special time for Mary; she loved angels and Santa Claus. She will be remembered for making “Santa-bags” for each of her grandchildren and continued the tradition into their adulthood. Mary was a remarkable woman and will be missed by many people who loved her. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Scranton Manor for providing wonderful and loving care to Mary during these past years. The family would also like to thank the staff at the VNA Hospice at Geisenger Community Medical Center for providing comfort in Mary's last hours. She is also survived by four children, John L.
