DEMASE LAWRENCE ALFRED Lawrence Alfred Demase, of Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania, died January 18, 2018 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after a brief hospitalization. Larry was born June 2, 1945 to Elsie Jean (Trager) and Joseph Charles Demase in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in the North Hills of Pittsburgh.Larry graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1967 with a bachelor's of science in biochemistry and went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1971. Mr. Demase was a retired partner with the Reed Smith law firm, where much of his focus was on cases related to the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and the Superfund program through which the federal government cleans up hazardous waste sites. In 2009 he traveled to Copenhagen to participate in the United Nations summit on climate change, where he worked  to draft a plan that was part of a U.N. resolution on climate change. Throughout his more than 40 years as an attorney, he represented a wide range of clients at all levels of the judicial system, including the U.S. Supreme Court.  But Larry was proudest of his family. He was married to Patricia (Jalowick) Demase for 50 years. The Demases have two children: Morgan Katherine, who lives in Reading, Massachusetts with her husband David Copeland and their daughter, Mia Rose Demase Copeland; and Michael Lawrence Demase, who is completing his studies in computer science at the Pennsylvania State University in Erie. In retirement, Larry enjoyed traveling, spending time on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and doting on Mia Rose. Larry is also survived by his brothers Joseph of Tuscon, Arizona; Stevan and his wife Marsha of Abington, Virginia; and his best friend Kenneth Frederick and his wife Virginia of Atherton, California. He is also survived by Joseph's son John and Stevan's children, Stevan Jr. and Rachel. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS INC.
