HELLER HANNELORE ALIDA (ABEE) 87, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully Friday, February 7, 2014, at home, with her dear friends and beloved Dachshunds at her side. She was born August 21,1926, in Hamburg, Germany, the eldest daughter of the late Theodore Victor Abee and Lita (Tunke) Abee. In addition to her role as a loving wife and mother, Hannelore will always be remembered for her special love and communication with animals. From her childhood friend, Yolanda the pig, with whom she sat reading, to the draft horses at the childhood farm visits in the summer, Hannelore loved them all. Later in life, this love and skill was focused on Dachshunds and she bred a beautiful line of Standard Longhaired Dachshunds (Han-Jo's). This line has positively influenced the breed and is found in the pedigrees of nearly all Standard Longhaired Dachshunds today. Hannelore also used her communication with animals to become one of the most skillful professional Dachshund handlers of all time. Beyond her contribution to the breed and beautiful presentation of dogs, Hannelore was greatly loved and respected throughout the Dachshund community for her ever present willingness to help others by sharing her knowledge, skill and love. She is an icon to people throughout the world that are dedicated to this breed and her passing is a great loss to all. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Joseph H. Heller; daughter, Linda Corder; and sister, Liselotte Gambill. Hannelore will be dearly missed by her loving family. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Heller and her husband, Roy Johnson, of Idaho, and Nan Jordan, of Texas; four grandchildren, Steven Jordan, Katie (Noah) Mayes, and Joey and Danny Corder; four great-grandchildren; and two nephews. Hannelore will also be dearly missed by her many close friends from the Dachshund world including Sue Hauser, of Murrysville, with whom she spent many wonderful times in her later years. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177. A Memorial Service for Hannelore will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m., immediately following the gathering, with Pastor Pete Goetschius of Poke Run Presbyterian Church, Apollo, officiating. lnurnment in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, will be held privately. As an expression of sympathy, contributions in Hannelore's memory may be made to World Wildlife Fund, "Tiger Preservation", 1250 24th Street NW, P.O. Box 97180, Washington, D.C., 20090-7180.
